On January 9, 1861, Mississippi became the 2nd State to secede from the Union. Mississippi joined the Confederacy on March 30, 1861 when it ratified the Constitution of the Confederate States. All State of Mississippi issued notes are uni-face or plain back except for the last issue in 1865, that have ornate backs.
