Omega Ring History
Some Comments and a bit of History on the Omega Ring!

"Complacency is the Smother of Invention" Anon. Jr.

A number of years ago, I began looking for a way of performing a Chop Cup routine using an ordinary cup. As the thinking process progressed, the idea of a magnetic ring began to develop. I began experimenting with the idea which eventually evolved into the Omega Ring.

After developing the ring I began to ponder on other effects and moves that could be performed with the ring. What started out as a Chop Cup Ring (which by the way, was what I originally intended to name it) expanded into a virtual utility piece.

I can't even begin to tell you of the vast number of magicians I've talked to that have created their own effects, needs, and uses for the Omega Ring. Oddly enough, the majority of them are probably not performing the Chop Cup routine.

If I could impress upon the magic fraternity the importance of one attribute, it would be the attribute of creativity. All to often we display a lack of originality and creativity in our presentations, patter, methodology, personality, and technique. Our art has become a world of clones all too many of which feel content with buying an effect, reading the instructions and routine, and then copying them word for word and move for move.

If we spent as much time working on our own creative abilities as we do memorizing and mimicking the works of other magicians, we'd find our art would be swimming in a pool of total excitement. But some of us just don't understand the concept of the word "potential". Others simply don't take the time to explore the creative seed each of us has planted deep within.

In the original instructions for the Omega Ring, I basically outlined concepts and ideas. What I had hoped for (and it seems to have happened) was a rising of creative originality by those who have purchased the ring. I am delighted and amazed with some of the moves, routines, and effects I've seen magicians originate and perfect using the ring. It's really what makes me "tick".

A number of effects are described, illustrated, and detailed in OmegaMania. This manuscript includes those effects I've been most often asked to put in print. (For a description of the effects, click here) If you elect to obtain a copy, feel free to use and perform them. But even these pages are composed with the hopes that they would continue to get your creative juices flowing. It is realistic to state that for every effect I've included, you can create ten more. Every move and concept described can launch your creative mind into even better ideas, better routines, better moves.

Best wishes in all of your magic creativity!
