Below are effects which are explained and illustrated in "Omegamania". Descriptions of these effects are from the spectator point of view. Some of these effects require gimmicks which you may have on hand, my easily acquire, or easily make for yourself.
BOTTLE CAP IN BOTTLE
Effect: A beer bottle is displayed with one hand, while the bottle cap is displayed with the other. Suddenly, the cap is cracked against the bottle, and visibly penetrates to the interior of the bottle. The bottle can immediately be handed out for examination. It can even be given to the spectator for a souvenir.
Advanced Method With the 'Omega Kicker'
The above is the effect in its simplest form, however, I would like to introduce you to several variations of the effect, some of which are not workable with any other method. By using both the Omega Ring and Omega Kicker, you can also:
1. Set the bottle down on the table before, during or after the effect.
2. Transpose the cap into the bottle, then out, then back in.
3. Begin with a full, capped bottle of beer or liquid.
4. Offer the bottle as a souvenir at the completion of the effect.
2 Bits Bit
Effect: A drinking glass, a napkin or handkerchief, and a quarter are borrowed.
The quarter is placed on the center of the napkin or handkerchief, which is then tightly spread over the mouth of the drinking glass. With your opened right hand, you suddenly strike the quarter. Instantly and visibly, the quarter is seen to penetrate the napkin, dropping into the glass.
2 COINS THROUGH
Effect: The performer presents a quarter from his own pocket. He next borrows a clear drinking glass, a paper napkin, and a quarter from the spectators.
Both quarters are placed on top of the paper napkin, and the napkin is then placed over the mouth of the drinking glass.
With the glass and napkin held firmly in place, the magician taps the quarters with his hand, and they both instantly penetrate the napkin, into the drinking glass.
The glass, the coins, and the napkin are handed to the spectators for examination, and the borrowed items are returned.
The Omega Discover Card
Effect: A spectator thumbs through a face-up deck of cards, and selects 6 to 10 cards of his choice. From his packet of cards, he selects just one card. The card is marked on the face side.
The spectator mixes it in with the other cards, spreading them face down on the table. Even he doesn't know where the selected card is located! All of this is accomplished with the magician facing away, or even out of the room.
The magician then passes his hands over the cards. The magician feels the "vibes", "heat" or whatever, and locates the signed card.
NOTE: This may be performed with a borrowed deck!
DOUBLE REVERSE
Effect: Two decks, a poker sized deck and a miniature deck, are introduced. The magician selects a "prediction card" from the miniature deck, and places it face down on the close-up pad. The poker deck is shown, and the spectator then selects a card. The remainder of the poker deck is squared, and placed down on the table. The spectator is then instructed to place his card face down on top of the deck.
With some "build-up", the magician places his (miniature) prediction card face-up on top of the spectators card, but appears to be alarmed when the spectator informs him that the prediction is incorrect. "You must have done something wrong" states the magician.
"You were supposed to select the (miniature prediction card name). What card did you select?" The spectator names his card, and the magician then strikes the top of the deck with his hand. Instantly, the miniature prediction card changes to the card which the spectator just named.
"Now they match" states the magician as he lifts his prediction card from the deck. "My (name of the new miniature card) matches your selection of.....(magician turns spectators card over)....wait a minute (his card is now the same as your original miniature prediction card), you did select my original prediction card." Indeed! Both cards changed suite and value!
OMEGA BUSINESS CARD
Effect: The magician removes from his pocket a packet of business cards. It's noted that the business cards are blank on both sides.
The magician explains that he uses "the economy, 'do-it-yourself' business cards" as he hands the spectator one of the blank cards and a pen. "I'll give you may name, address, and phone number" states the magician, "and you can write it down!"
Changing his mind, the magician informs the spectator that he has another idea. It's the magician's version of "Insti-print". Taking the blank card back from the spectator, he places it on top of the rest of the packet of blank cards. A quick wave over the packet of cards, and the top card changes to a printed business card.
The card is handed out to the spectator. If the spectator grabs for the remaining packet of cards, let him! You're left clean, and all he'll find is a pile of blank cards.
SUBLIMINAL SUGGESTION
Effect: A watch is borrowed from a spectator. While admiring the watch, you inform the spectator that you're about to attempt an experiment in subliminal suggestion. He is asked to listen carefully as you recite a simple (but funny) little poem.
At the conclusion of the poem, you draw out the stem on the watch which stops the second hand.
You next request that he name the first number between one and twelve that comes to his mind. After he announces it, you ask him if he was aware that you had sent a subliminal message during the course of reciting the poem. You show him the watch. The number he just announced is the very same number on which the second hand was stopped.
The stem of the watch is pushed back in (starting the watch again) and the watch is returned to him.
A QUICK AND EASY MENTAL EFFECT
Effect: A bill of any denomination is borrowed (for effect, the larger the better). The serial number is noted, or the bill is initialed by its owner. One by one the envelopes are handed to the performer. The performer holds each envelope, and drops them one by one into a large pan. Only one is retained by the performer.
The performer then places the one remaining envelope in his wallet, which is left in full view.
Lighter fluid is sprayed on the five envelopes in the pan, and the contents are ignited. After they have had sufficient time to burn, the wallet is opened, and the envelope is removed and handed to the spectator (owner of the bill). As he opens the envelope, he discovers a piece of newspaper, not his hard earned cash.
The magician tries to extinguish the flames, but it's too late. (Great comedy!)
The
magician then takes the wallet and unzips a compartment in the wallet.
Another coin envelope is produced from within and handed to the
spectator. As he opens this envelope he finds his signed bill.
