WAVERLY HILLS SANATORIUM
Located in Louisville, KY, built in 1924 and opened in 1924, this hospital became the most advanced tuberculosis center in America.  It is reported that nearly 60,000 or more people died there in the years that it operated as a hospital until 1961 when it was closed down.
In 1962 the building was reopened as a Sanitarium, called Woodhaven.  From this point there have been rumors of secret experiments preformed on the patients, ranging from extreme electoshock therapy, to gross abuse and torture.  This business too was closed down in 1982.
Several people have owned it and the property surrounding it after that during the following years, and most of the origianl buildings have been torn down except for the center entrance and largest part of the hospital section.  It has been home to vagrants, drug addicts, satanists and a concrete canvas for graffiti artists.  Over the years it has gained a reputation for being 'haunted'...
Lights light up when there is no electricity, children play and run up and down the hallways, appartitions of the sick and elderly float along the corridors, doors slam, voices are heard whispering, moaning and screaming, and you can still hear, some say, dead bodies being dropped down the old body shute in the basement.
Today there is a society that you can make arrangements with that will give guided tours.

There is a wonderful article by Keith Age, Jay Gravatte & Troy Taylor,
of the Prairie Ghosts association,
that details the entire history of this magnificent remaining relic from the early 1900's,
that has been readily documented as being one of the top 10 most haunted places on earth.
You can also read the author's accounts of their personal tours through this magnificent historical building,
and you better get a large cup of coffee and your cig's handy because you will be glued to the
computer monitor for awhile reading about all the creepy events that transpired while they were there.
Truly a wonderful piece of writing worth reading over and over again.
