Poems by Phillip Ward

FRACTURED GLANCES
is a retrospective of sorts an overview
of nearly thirty-five years of writing poetry
at a glance the oldest poem dates
from the early 1970s with the latest one
written sometime during 2006
wanton liberty was taken shuffling about
birth years intentionally misplacing
each poem's time of delivery
mixing them together into one
gigantic wave the poems toss words
emotions and years out into the raging sea
to sink or swim in a flurry of fractured time
like a deck of cards flirting with the wind
or as a stack of painted canvases
showing an ever-changing biography
with each poem standing on its own
hawking the line's hard sell to you
