Cayman Brac - Nov. 5-12, 2005

This trip to the Caymans was to see the little Sisters, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman. The Brac Reef Resort on the south western tip of Cayman Brac was the perfect place to stay for our adventure. The accommodations were very nice with all of the amenities you would expect for a great resort. The air conditioned rooms were neat, clean and comfortable, a nice fresh water pool, a well stocked bar and a very friendly and efficient staff. A few other amenities went beyond the usual including a day spa, a fitness center, and a cyber cafe. karaoke night was "interesting" but no one from our group had the guts to get up and entertain. Movie night was a popular event with a premiere showing of a new slide show of "Wrecks of the Cayman Islands".

The amenity that stood out the most was the restaurant. The Jamaican trained kitchen staff led by Executive Chef Cheryl were simply phenomenal. The only complaint heard from this trip was that the food was "too good". With several entree choices at every meal it was hard to choose - so you just had to try everything! And if the main course didn't get you the deserts truly would as the pastry chef (who was also the substitute bar tender) offered up killer delicacies with every meal. Losing weight on this vacation was simply NOT an option.

Staying at the Brac Reef Resort provided easy access to all dive sites. With the drop offs only a short distance off shore and fast boats it never took long to get to the dive sites. We had the best dive crew on the whole island - Robert, Donnie and Vicky. They obviously enjoy their jobs and are very good at it. They took care of our every diving need while taking us to the best sites. Their knowledge of the sites was outstanding. The dive briefings were excellent giving everyone a clear layout of each site. You could follow the divemaster on each dive (they knew where all of the special treats were for every dive) or follow your own buddy team profile. We say all of the usual underwater creatures but the outstanding sitings during the trip included marble headed jaw fish, flying gernards, green and blue lettuce slugs, sail fin blennies, nurse sharks, hawksbill and green sea turtles and spiny Lobsters.

Three outstanding dives were the two dives along bloody bay wall off Little Cayman and the dive on the sunken Russian Frigate, MV Capt. Keith Tibbetts (formerly known as Nohodlka 356). The Bloody Bay Wall drop offs were very dramatic, colorful and thriving with life. Ed Beaty of the Reef Photo & Video Shop located at Brac Reef joined us for the dive on the frigate and produced an excellent video of the dive along with some great still shots on the boat. A number of our group also took advantage of Ed's expertise getting advice from him on technique and camera operations.

Thanks Robert, Donnie and Vicky for an exciting and safe week of diving. And thanks to the Brac Reef Resort staff for a very relaxing, fattening, fun filled, enjoyable week in paradise. Go back and checkout the photo galleries.
