Software Developer Information

GolfPad is a low cost hardware accessory, initially for Palm Treo and Centro Smart Phones. It attaches to the headset jack and sends an audio profile of the pressure wave produced as the golf club head passes over two sensors.

The pressure wave can be analyzed in real time or stored as a wav file. If you have experience working with audio on Palm OS it's not too difficult...

Measure time between first two rising edges, the rest is turbulence.

Club head speed (MPH) = (1/ ( time measurement / distance between sensors)) X .05681818

Say the time was measured as .016 seconds and the sensor spacing is 6"

.016 / 6 = .002667 seconds/inch

1 / .002667 = 375 inches/second

375 x .05681818=21.3 MPH

Ball travel estimate charts for different clubs can be found on the web.

Wave Edit Pro can be very useful when developing your application.

Possible software applications range from games to practice sessions that store an improvement history profile.

For a complete round of golf, a small audio oscillator can be clipped on the putter shaft to produce an amplitude modulated tone as it passes the sensors.

Although GolfPad is low cost it has some major advantages over other practice mats. It doesn't require an external power source. It is very thin, you don't need to stand on a pad to adjust your height. It will function under any lighting conditions. Can be imprinted with custom logos and graphics. Interfaces directly with Treo or Centro (TX with adapter).
