HOW TO APPLY

To complete the application process for the NEH Summer Institute: Archaeology of Jordan and Its Western Neighbors teachers are requested to please apply on-line if possible.

  • 1. Complete the standard NEH Participant Application Cover Sheet. Please be sure that the form prints on one page only and does not extend over to two pages. Send three copies of the signed Cover Sheet to G. London, even if you apply on-line. The Cover Sheet is the single form that requires three signed copies, even if you apply on-line.

  • 2. Write an application essay detailing why you would like to participate. The essay should be no more than four pages, double-spaced. It should note your reasons for applying, your interests (academic and personal) in ancient history; related qualifications and experiences; and how the institute content would benefit you, your students, and your district. Include a brief description of a successful lesson from your classroom, and one that was a failure. Explain experiences presenting workshops to teachers and willingness to participate in state and national conferences to disseminate information gained in the institute. Note applicable extra-curricular activities.

  • 3. Compile and send a detailed resume.

  • 4. Send 3 copies of the cover sheet, essay, and resume to:
    Dr. G. London, 7701 Crest Dr., N.E., Seattle, WA 98115. Or, we encourage you to send a resume and essay ON-LINE if possible to G. London and D. Sharpes. All applicants will send signed copies of the NEH Cover Sheet, even if you submit the essay and resume on-line. OR send by snail mail three hard copies of the Cover Sheet, essay and resume.

  • 5. Please have two letters of recommendation sent directly to Dr. G. London, 7701 Crest Dr., N.E. Seattle, WA 98115, post-marked no later than March 10, 2005. No information on the status of an application will be available prior to the official notification date.
