Cleanliness and Quality of Lake
During the summer, the lake is monitored, regularly, for excessive growth
of weeds and algae. When these two very annoying but perfectly harmless substances
begin to appear, a professional lake treatment company is employed to treat the lake with state regulated amounts of approved
chemicals to purge the lake of the nuisance. Within a couple of days, the condition
disappears. This treatment equates to a homeowner applying chlorine to his back
yard pool so that the water will clear.
Additionally, a state certified laboratory is retained to test the lake,
on a weekly to bi-weekly basis for the high presence of fecal coliform. Should
the testing ever reach a reading of 200 parts per million, the water would be deemed unsafe for human usage, and the lake
would be closed down until the readings dropped below the 200 mark once again.
Lake Neepaulin, consistently, over the past six years, has had very
low fecal colliform readings, making the lake very clean and safe to use. Generally, the tests have ranged between less than
10ppm and 40 ppm. The majority of the tests, however, have been 10ppm or less.
TYPES AND SIZE OF FISH
If you maintain the philosophy, "I’d rather be fishing," Lake Neepaulin is the place for you to be.
Anglers have a great time fishing, either from a boat or from land, for large mouth bass, perch, blue gills, sun fish, crappies,
channel catfish and bull head catfish. Many people catch the fish and let them go, some take them home for a tasty treat,
and some brag, forever, about the "BIG ONE" that got away. But, whether you catch something big , or something small, or even
nothing at all, a lot of pleasure awaits the fisherman (or woman) who joins FOLN’s clan. So, don’t miss out. Fish
in our lake and… who knows? You may be the one to catch the biggest fish. The record, right now, is a 10 lb./4oz. large
mouth bass caught by a long time lake resident and a 26 inch catfish….caught by a seven year old boy whose family just
joined the association.
