SUPPORT PRUITT AMENDMENT TO SB-10A to remove gun tax.

SB-10A is a hidden GUN TAX.  The fee for criminal history checks on Right to Carry license holders and applicants will go from an actual cost of $15 up to $30 as the bill now stands.  THAT IS A 100% TAX.

SB-10A authorizes the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) to increase the fee for a criminal records check to a specified amount in statutes.  Since under current law FDLE is authorized to charge the ACTUAL COST (currently $15) of doing a
criminal history check, anything above the actual cost is a TAX.

We have been told that an amendment will be offered to lower the authorized fee to $24.  THAT IS STILL almost a 50% TAX.

FDLE is claiming it costs them $23 to $24 to do a criminal records check.  We believe that is FALSE.  There is no way anyone should believe that they would be operating at a substantial loss when the law allows them increase the fee and charge the actual cost anytime they need to.

The PRUITT Amendment REMOVES the hidden GUN TAX.

Sen. Ken Pruitt will offer an amendment on the Senate floor to remove the hidden gun tax from SB-10A.

This bill was amended to limit the FEE to $15. We WIN !
