Unless otherwise noted, the CD includes
all of the images shown. The Jamestown Fire Department began as a group of separate volunteer fire companies, who often competed with one another. A “Great Fire” destroyed several blocks of Jamestown’s downtown area in 1910. The following year, the volunteer departments were disbanded, and the city-wide paid department was begun. The CD includes the department's horse-drawn apparatus and the Great Fire of 1910. THE resource for those interested in the history of the department is Transition in Red, by Lt. Leo E. Duliba. For purchasing information, contact the Morton Club Beneficiary Association, c/o Fire Department, Municipal Building, Jamestown, NY 14701 or visit the Fenton History Center site.
