Over two decades of successful sightseeing & learning tours designed to fill the needs of Dancers, Musicians and fun-loving folk.
In addition to visiting ancient ruins, magnificent historical structures, uniquely ethnic places like grand bazaars, tea houses and Turkish baths, we will also attend shows by the country's top dance stars, their great bands and folkloric shows, as well as parties or events specifically prepared by your tour leader. There will also be classes available for dancers and musicians as well as plenty of options for shoppers. Dance Study Intensive in Istanbul $2,400. "land-only" price (departure from USA is 4/25)
At least four dance classes are included, though we usually have given more. Also in 2008 we are including a trip to a Romani Spring Festival!
Non-dancers & musicians welcome!
TWELVE FULL DAYS and NIGHTS. Study dance with native teachers ... Oriental (cabaret) and Turkish Romani (Gypsy) styles (at least 8 hours are included). Shopping! ... lots of shopping at costume shops, famous seamstresses, and the Grand Covered Bazaar. Istanbul's best Oriental dancers and folkloric troupes performing for us at nightclub dinner shows, special parties or concert with live music. Some great dancers will be pulled out of early retirement just for us! Lots of sightseeing, Topkapi Palace, Blue Mosque, Aya Sofia, Bosforus day cruise between Asia and Europe! , fully functional historic Turkish bath! Whirling Dervishes ... and much more ... (of course, we always include nice hotels, Turkish breakfast buffet, and when you participate with the scheduled events: all dinners, most lunches, transportation, entrance fees, and licensed guides). Some music classes can be arranged as well, by request.
Included in above price ... a trip to a traditional festival of the Roma, welcoming the early buds of Spring, the flow of water, fertility, and life! Picnic on the fairgrounds, lots of live music, dance and frolic, jumping bonfires for good luck (it's OK to just watch ...) and feeling the joy of Roma families dancing for each other.

Seven extra nights (till May 15) after the dance intensive ends. $1,600. "land-only" price, includes round trip Istanbul/Kayseri airfare, mini-bus, guides, sightseeing, clubs, shows, cave or rock-cliff hotel, splendid food often with live music .... and folk-dancing class.
(Rachid will be with us, and you can study oud, violin, or Arabic singing with him during open time).
Cappadocia - geologic and historic wonderland!
We will visit ancient hidden Christian cities of Cappadocia, some are deep underground and some are dug out of eerie geological formations (even our hotel will be dug into the rock - with showers, of course!). This is a peaceful place with beautiful valleys full of "fairy chimneys". Of course, also included are nice hotels, all dinners, Turkish breakfast, and for scheduled activities: entrance fees, licensed guides, all lunches, transportation and flight to/from Kayseri. Weather permitting, there will be an option for a Balloon ride over the fairy chimneys of Cappadocia!
Or plan to stay longer "on your own" in Istanbul or to explore Western Turkey.

Arrival and departure days in Casablanca; three days in Rabat visiting ancient and historic sites, shopping for musical instruments, traditional Oriental bath house, and visiting with a local family; three days in Fes where we can be amazed at the maze of small streets and thousands of intricate shops and little cafes of the ancient Medina of Fes... with our trusty guide of course ... folkloric dinner show, and Andalus music classes by request; three days in Marrakech, city of rose colored walls, souqs, and performing artists, visiting historic sites; three days in the seaside resort of Agadir, with folkloric shows, sea & sand; and in both cities, classes in rhythms, music and popular dance of Morocco; a visit to a desert village farther South; and one day in the blue and white port city of Essaouira including a camel trek ...
... all with a focus on the entrancing music and dance of Morocco!
In October, we will try to arrange a visit to a small traditional festival at an oasis ...

Sightseeing at pharaonic and historic sites, Egyptian Museum, grand mosques, five-star dinner nightclubs & showboat, lots of shopping options at the great Khan el Khalili Bazaar, Mahmoud's belly-dance "department store", and bazaars in Upper Egypt, Pullman-car train, sailing in feluccas on the Nile, visiting a village with old friends of Eva's, great temples, tombs of the Valley of the Kings, Pyramids, Sphinx, and much ... much ... more.
Eva will try to arrange a dance class with Khairiya Maazin Ghawazi dancer in Luxor, and with either Nadia Hamdi, or Aida Noor in Cairo for those who are dancers. This tour can be timed to connect to other festivities going on in Cairo right before or after our tour.

Cancellation policy: If we cancel (very unlikely) it would be fully refundable. If you cancel, Eva Cernik would refund all money which had not yet been used for bookings on your behalf at time of notifying Eva, minus a reasonable service fee. For Turkish tour, no refunds after April 10, 2008, except for emergencies.
Remember! ... when you compare tours, others may not include night club outings, dance or music classes, many meals , and are usually large groups "bare-bones" kind of programs. We "flesh-it-out" with all kinds of special things simply because our groups are small and we always try to be generous.

Tours do not include: Personal jaunts, extra snacks or teas, alcohol, laundry, personal health insurance, your shopping, international airfare, passport and visa fees, some tips for guides, musicians or dancers at your discretion, hot air balloon-ride option in Cappadocia, and extra classes you choose to take.
Your tour leader for Delightful Turkish Tours and all our tours is Eva Cernik -- an ethnic dancer, performer and teacher. She has organized tours to Egypt and Turkey since 1984. She knows that while traveling, you do not have time for "trial and error".
