Etiolation is the state in which a plant manages to survive without sunlight. The
Art of Etiolation is a drama about an actress, Magali, who discovers that, although she is now an adult, she has
yet to overcome the trauma of the physical and emotional abuse she suffered as a child.
In her
quest to achieve truth in her art, Magali learns that this is inseparable from living truthfully in her life. Therefore, she
must come to terms with her ability to live a courageous and dignified life as a black woman in the theatre and in the world,
and how every single aspect of her life affects every other - how her work affects her art and her relationships, and how
the denial of her past affects how fully she can embrace the present.
