Samba Reggae from Salvador, Bahia, Brasil
transcribed by Erin Barbour

Hi and Welcome to a page for the Texas Drums people , drums.org, and whomever else finds it!

I've been fortunate to have travelled to Salvador, in the state of Bahia, Brasil with a great group of drummers. I organize a drum course there, a few times a year. This transcription is of a basic Samba Reggae groove taught to us by our teacher, Marivaldo.

Samba Reggae

This is one of many variations of Samba Reggae. Believe me, there are many! Our group had a lot of fun with these grooves! Hope you have some good fun too!

You'll see five different surdo parts. Remember that a somewhat typical Bloco Afro has twenty or more players!

Our teacher Marivaldo plays with a very famous Bloco Afro called Ilé Ayé. Grupo Olodum is another very important part of the musical scene in Salvador and worldwide as well.

Most of these parts are very important to the overall groove. The repinique part (and variations) is important, as is the snare. So, let's find some drummers and go for it!!
