Here I am attempting to teach proper position to a hard headed student. (Arent they all?.)
Phoenix, Arizona - National Flute Association Convention - August, 1998.

One of my major interests is playing the flute. I recently completed five years as president of The Greater Portland Flute Sociey, spreading the joy of fluting and promoting events of interest to flutists and other musicians. Among the groups I've been playing in recently are The Con Grazia Wind Quintet, The Oregon Chamber Players, Classic Greek Theater, North Coast Symphonic Band, One Voice Productions (The Singing Christmas Tree!) and the Mocks Crest Productions of Gilbert and Sullivan Operettas. I show up occasionally in the Portland Chamber Orchestra, Pacific Crest Wind Symphony, Bravo! Vancouver, the Oregon Sinfonietta and in recordings with the Oregon Catholic Press. I also do a fair amount of solo work. My instrument (as of August 1999) is a handmade Burkart flute, 14k gold with silver keys. I also play a handmade Burkart wooden piccolo. Just to keep myself humble I have and play a Casey Burns Irish flute (no keys). I do not attempt Prokofiev on the latter. |

| I had some pictures taken in November 2000. Click here if you want to see them. If you like them Rebecca Becker could do something nice for you too. (Shes got one of these in her Head Shots (and Hot Shots) gallery.) |

In addition to my work as a flutist, composer and sound designer there is, of course, the day job(s). I work as aacomputer consultant, Macintosh a specialty, other operating systems as needed. In addition to my private clients I am a Technical Support specialist in the Portland Public Schools and do teacher training for PPS, Portland State University and Lewis and Clark College. Part of this work involves creating and maintaining databases using FileMaker Pro. (No surprise, I am a member of the Filemaker Solutions Alliance.) I also manage a number of web sites (for instance, this one) and until recently co-administered a listerve for educators involved in bilingual and ESL education. |

Please note, this page, like most of my web sites, uses no frames, doesnt blink, loads pretty quickly (at least, it should) even when there are pictures present, and fits on a small monitor screen. You dont need to use an up to the minute browser to view it. (Although if you use a Windows machine the font will be one size larger than I used. You can click the button in the menu bar in Explorer to make the font smaller if you like. Netscape requires you to change the size in the preferences/properties/options. This is something Netscape still hasnt got right.) There are no java script ticker tape thingies on the bottom, or buttons that change color when you run your cursor over them. Simple and direct (and fast). Youre done now. You can go on with your life.

P.S. Want to see a flyer for a concert series I appeared on at Mills College when I was a graduate student? For some strange reason it never made it through the mail room until the top half was removed. Click on through and you'll get to see the big print version.
Caution: this image will never appear on Sesame Street. Click here at your own risk!
