HATHA YOGA
I have studied and taught hatha yoga since 1974. I have learned from many wonderful teachers both in the U.S. and in India.
I regard hatha yoga practice as "prayer with the body", as a purification of body and mind that leads to Self-Realization.
My intention for myself and my students is to "go deeper" and experience our essential and radiant nature, to live
in yogic union with our Divine Self, our Source.
A regular practice of yoga can increase physical and mental flexibility, strength, endurance, coordination & balance.
Upon meeting Kaliji in 1992, I felt that I had encountered in her teachings of TriYoga®, an authentic form of Hatha Yoga.
Kaliji's approach to yoga integrates asanas (postures), pranayama (breath control) and mental focus. This trinity practice
is meditative, and promotes deep relaxation & inner peace. The practice can be as gentle or as challenging as desired,
resulting in physical, mental, and spiritual benefit. Prana (life energy) flows & transforms the practitioner. Much gratitude
to Kaliji; Jaya Guru Devi
Each class is a unique experience. Classes begin with a brief discourse on a particular aspect of yoga followed by sanskrit
chant which contributes to mental focus. This is a prelude to the breathing practices, postures, and posture flows. A guided
deep relaxation (yoganidra), a guided meditation, and a closing chant conclude the class.
"Knowing all objects to be impermanent, let not their contact blind you. Resolve again & again to be aware of the
Self that is permanent."
- Krishnamacharya

"There is the practice of yoga of the body, mind, and atma; always fruitful, and it gives to each through practice what
he seeks."
"Asana will make the body light.
Pranayama strengthens prana.
Dharana purifies the intellect."
- Krishnamacharya
"Practice pranayama with attention. Then, when the breath becomes long and smooth, The mind is ready for meditation."
- Krishnamacharya
