MEDFORD FAMILY CONCERT
A big “thank you” to everyone who attended and supported
our first Medford Family Concert on Feb. 10 at Chevalier Theatre. The event was
a modest success financially, but the Organ Society gained a lot of exposure in
the community and forged some new relationships with other organizations that
will serve us well in the future. A special thanks to theatre organist Ed
Wawrzynowicz, who donated his pre-concert performance of Swing Era tunes on our
Kawai organ. If you are in Medford, watch for a half-hour program on the
concert that will be airing soon on Medford Community Cablevision (TV-3).
WURLITZER FUND MILESTONE
Our Mighty Wurlitzer Restoration Fund has surpassed the
one-third mark, reaching $18,200, meaning we still need to raise about twice
that much – $36,800 – to reach our goal of $55,000. The grants committee is
preparing an application to the American Theatre Organ Society Endowment Fund,
due April 15, as well as other grant applications.
GOODSHOP
First, there was GoodSearch, a search engine that, when
used, registers income for designated charities, including the Organ Society.
Now, there is GoodShop. When you make online purchase through the portal, a
percentage of what you spend is donated to your designated charity. More than
40 shopping sites are offered, including Amazon.com and Staples.com. Sign up

SIMON GLEDHILL ASTOUNDS
EMCATOS (Eastern Massachusetts Chapter American
Theatre Organ Society) Pipe Organ Pops presents
theatre organ concerts at Knight Auditorium-Babson College in Wellesley and the
Shanklin Music Hall in Groton. See
schedule above for April events featuring England’s Simon Gledhill. If you have not heard this very personable
man, you have a treat coming. Simon
was born in Halifax, West Yorkshire in 1965 and showed a keen interest in music
from an early age. The accordion and
piano came before the organ, which was spurred on by hearing Ernest Broadbent
play the Mighty Wurlitzer at Blackpool’s Tower Ballroom. Offers for concerts have taken him to all
the major theatre organ venues in Britain, as well as Germany, Holland,
Australia and the USA. Lyn Larsen, one
of America’s leading theatre organists, said:
“He is that rare combination of flawless technique, impeccable phrasing
and an unerring sense of musical good taste.” A busy person, he combines his
concert career and recording activities with work for the Cinema Organ Society
in Great Britain and a full-time job in corporate banking, based in London. (Advance tickets are a good idea. Information and order details are available
at www.emcatos.com.)
FRANK MORSE
We have received word from his daughter in California
that Frank Morse passed away. Frank
was a consistent supporter of the Society from its beginning. He lived in Sunapee, NH.
