Drink 8-10 glasses of water every day.

Recent research showed drinking plenty of water can reduce heart attacks. It can also reduce pain, keep your body systems functioning well, and prevent you from eating if you're trying to lose weight.

Eat Plenty of fresh local fruits and vegetables.

Fruits and vegetables contain protectors that ward off illness and may prevent it, too.

Eat less meat and poultry.

Vegetarian food plans have been associated with less chronic illness in many studies.

Use tofu, sesame tahini and nut butters instead. Eat mackerel or another oily fish every few weeks; fish oil can reduce pain and treats a lot of chronic conditions. Try out soy cheese, soy burgers, soy milk, tempeh and soy meats, too.

If your local grocery store doesn't stock them, ask your store manager to put them on the shelf.

 Use probiotics

"Healthy intestinal bacteria", called, "Probiotics" are especially important during and after taking antibiotics, which destroy these useful critters that help you digest your food.

At the least, eat lowfat plain yogurt, but make sure it states, "Active live cultures" on the label.

Step away from alcohol.

Don't drink more than a couple of glasses of wine a week and stay away from other forms of alcohol.

Drinking can become a habit and once it has, it is associated with loss of control, broken relationships, poor memory and many chronic diseases.

Avoid smoking, smoky places, over-the-counter and recreational drugs.

Find new places to haunt if your current ones are smoky. Protect your health first! You deserve it....If you're taking over-the counter, recreational or prescription drugs, speak to your health care professional about taking a lower dose or weaning yourself off it by changing to a healthier lifestyle.

Get enough exercise every day so that you sleep well.

Exercise also reduces depression, keeps you looking and feeling young, wards off diabetes and heart conditions, osteoporosis, PMS, menopausal symptoms and more!

Recent research showed that adults up to the age of 96 got stronger and were able to do more daily activities when they participated in a weight lifting program. If they can do it, you can do it!

Start small with walking or Tai Chi and talk to your health care professional about a program that will work for you.

Check out exercise shows on your TV schedule and follow along. Don't just watch, participate at your level of exertion. Stop immediately if you feel any pain and consult your health care practitioner. You may just be going at it too vigorously, or you may need some pointers.

Enlist a supportive buddy to remind you of your exercise goal, exercise with you and praise you for any steps toward your goal. Research I did showed a buddy can make all the difference if you can't find the motivation to exercise.

Get enough tender loving touch.

Touch is important to health. Get plenty of hugs every day---ask for them from people you trust and you'll be surprised how many people will give you one. Massage and Self-Massage are great, too!

Find a life purpose.

Feed the spiritual side of you by finding something your're passionate about, something that makes you want to get up in the morning to do.

Try gardening, or volunteering at a local school or nursing home, or do something else that thrills you. It will keep you well, balanced and happy!

Get up wanting to see what your day brings you... or find another job or interest where you do!

(Tip: Go to bed telling yourself that you'll wake up refreshed and ready have a great day!)

Investigate supplements and herbs... especially if you're stressed.

Be sure you don't take either unless you're sure they suit you and the way you eat.

If you take any medications, be sure to discuss your supplements and herbs with your health care practitioner.

If he or she doesn't seemed informed and interested, consider finding another health care practitioner.

 Reduce your stress level.

High stress is associated with many illnesses and decreased life quality, including overweight.

Try out at least one of the following:

a massage...acupressure treatment...therapeutic or healing touch...relaxation therapy...guided imagery.

Take a couples massage class with a partner or friend and learn self-massage techniques, too.

Stop feeling depressed.

Research studies show that the best way to get out of a funk is to volunteer to help others. Check out your local newspaper for lists of groups looking for volunteers and get involved!

If you try volunteering and you're still depressed, seek the help of a counselor referred by your health care practitioner or friends who highly recommend the professional. Try it. You deserve to be happier!

Investigate one of the following:

...healing or therapeutic touch ... guided imagery ... nutrition/supplements ... herbs

Before you try anything new,it's a good idea to read up on it (check out
www.PubMed on the Internet for recent research on the topic) and find out about any side effects.

Start using stress management and mood enhancing procedures.

Tomorrow, write one positive idea on a 3X5 card and carry it with you all day, reading it whenever you have a spare moment.

Some ideas:

Everything is as it should be and I'm enjoying my life.

I can stay calm and serene no matter what happens.

I let go of all anger and worry and enjoy every flower, tree and bird I see today.

If you want to enhance your relationships, try one of these:

~take an assertiveness class

~talk to the people in your life about what they want from you and tell them what you expect from them

~see a counselor---then congratulate yourself on being smart enough to know that everyone needs help sometimes
