Cross County Conference Basketball History

The Cross County Conference began the season of 1978 - 1979. Original teams included Ansonia, Arcanum, Bethel, Bradford, Franklin Monroe, National Trail, Mississinawa Valley, Newton, Preble Shawnee, Tri-Village, Twin Valley North (now named Tri-County North)and Twin Valley South. In 1984, Preble Shawnee left the conference to join the Southwestern Buckeye Conference and was replaced by Covington in the 1990-91 season. In 2006 - 07 season the Miami East Vikings joined the CCC to bring the total number of schools to 13.

Ansonia, Arcanum, Bradford, Franklin Monroe, Mississinawa Valley, Newton, Tri-Village and Versailles were the original teams from the Darke County League in Baskeball. Since the DCL did not have a league in football, Versailles left the DCL in 73-74 to join the 3 Rivers Conference, which then became the Southwestern Rivers Conference (SRC disbanded in 2001). Before joining the CCC, Covington was part of the now disbanded Southwestern Rivers Conference. We have copies of articles on this page that trace Bradford, Newton and Covington's league roots back to the mid 1940's with membership in the old Stillwater Valley League . In 1950, Ansonia, Bradford and Covington were original members of the Tri-County Conference which included teams in Mercer Co. In 1972 Ansonia and Bradford continued their Mercer County roots when the Tri-County League evolved into the Midwest Athletic Conference (MAC). However they did not leave the DCL totally and between 1973 and 1978 Ansonia and Bradford competed in both the MAC and DCL in basketball and it appears that they competed the both leagues for quite some time! Once we obtain some DCL history, we'll find out just how long Ansonia and Bradford competed in two leagues! They rejoined their Darke County counter parts in all sports with the beginning of the CCC.

The teams from Preble County had origins in the Southwestern Buckeye League and old Preble County League.

With Bethel, Covington and Newton located in Miami County, the conference has teams in 3 counties west and north of Dayton. As of the 2002-2003 season the league has 3 teams that are Division III teams in boys basketball. They include, National Trail, Tri-County North and Twin Valley South. The remaining teams are in Division IV.

The conference has one state champion to their name with the 2001 Bethel Bees. In 1991 the Tri-Village Patriots were State Runner Up.
