16. Robert Lee³ Alsobrook (sr) (Ralph Capers², William M. or S.¹) was born in Emmet, Nevada County, Arkansas June 15, 1886. According to FamilySearch® Ancestral File AFN:88FQ-FF, Robert Lee was born June 15, 1896. This does not agree with the 1900 Pike County Arkansas Census which gives June 1886. There must be a typo in the Ancestral File because the 1900 Pike County census gives Jun 1886 as birthdate and AR as birth place. Later, Gladys Alsobrook gives the birth date as June 15, 1886. FamilySearch® International Genealogical Index #8815304 gives Robert Lee (sr) birthplace as Emmet, Nevada, Arkansas. Robert died February 3, 1959 in Seaside, California, at 72 years of age. According to Gladys Alsobrook, Robert Lee (sr)'s death date was February 3, 1959. According to John B. Alsobrook's obituary, he has only two sisters alive. Thus John's brothers are all dead by October 22, 1985, including Robert. Jane Goodgame thinks perhaps the death year was 1953.

He married Maybelle Buchanan Mt. Vernon, Franklin County, Texas, June? 10, 1915. The July 10, 1915 date is from daughter, Elsie, and also from Martha Bloodworth, John's granddaughter. Martha adds that W. A. Rogers officiated. The place, given Elsie and Martha both, is in north east Texas at the edge of the piney region.

Maybelle was born June 4, 1893. Birth date from headstone according to Cemeteries of NorthEast Texas is June 4, 1893. But Gladys Ruth [Pilgrim] Alsobrook gives the birthdate as June 3, 1996. Maybelle was the daughter of ? Buchanan and Maybelle's mother.

Maybelle died April 2, 1972 Pittsburg, Camp County, Texas, at 78 years of age. Death date from headstone according to Cemeteries of NorthEast Texas is April 2, 1893. But Gladys Ruth [Pilgrim] Alsobrook gives the birthdate as April 3, 1992. Gladys also gives the place of death as Pittsburg, Texas while daughter Elsie gave it as Sulphur Springs.

Her body was interred April 4 or 5, 1972 in Macedonia Cemetery, Camp County, Texas, Macedonia. At 22 years of age Maybelle became the mother of Exa Maedell Alsobrook Mt. Pleasant, Titus County, Texas, May 6, 1916. According to information from Elsie, Exa's sister, Exa was born in 1915 but Jane Morrow Goodgame, Exa's daughter says the year 1916 given by the SSDI is correct.

At 24 years of age Maybelle became the mother of Hattie Estell Alsobrook in Mount Pleasant, Titus County, Texas, December 5, 1917. Gladys Ruth [Pilgrim] Alsobrook thinks Hattie Estell was born in Talco but the funeral booklet has the birthplace as Mt. Pleasant, Texas.

At 27 years of age Maybelle became the mother of Lillian Odell Alsobrook Texas, June 25, 1920. At 30 years of age Maybelle became the mother of Robert Lee Alsobrook (jr) Mt. Pleasant, Titus County, Texas, September 9, 1923. Birthdate and place from Gladys, Robert's widow (Sep. 1999)

At 39 years of age Maybelle became the mother of Elsie Mae Dell Alsobrook in Cooper, Texas, September 11, 1932. At 41 years of age Maybelle became the mother of Artie Thomas Alsobrook in Sulphur Springs, Hopkins Co, Texas, January 25, 1935. Interview with Artie Thomas by Rosalyn Alsobrook by telephone 7/26/99. Birthdate given by his sister, Elsie, a month later agrees. Occupation: Housewife. Spelling on headstone is Maybelle. Elsie (sister) spells it May Bell.

Robert was listed as the head of a family on the 1900 Census in Thompson, Pike County, Arkansas. In the 1900 Pike County AR Census, Robert L is listed as being 13 years old, born June, 1886 in Arkansas.

He resided in Near "Old Jefferson", Texas January 4, 1942. According to a letter written by Robert Lee Alsobrook, Sr., he has just worked a job in "Old Jefferson" and his sons are about to do the same. Occupation: Farmer. Ruby Faye (Pilgrim) Alsobrook, Steed, Kilburn claims that before Bobby Edward was born, probably in the late 1940's or early 1950's, that Robert Lee Alsobrook (Sr.) and all his children except Henry Edward and Robert Lee (Jr.) moved from the Mt.Pleasant, Texas area to California, having heard life was much better there from relatives already there. She remembers them having settled around Pacific Grove and Seaside. Jane Morrow Goodgame supplies the year 1947 for Robert's move to California. Gladys Alsobrook remembers them having gone on to California in the 1930s. Ruby remembers the Morrows (four of Robert Lee Sr's daughters married Morrows) as being from Mt. Pleasant and Sugar Hill.

Robert Lee Alsobrook (sr) and Maybelle Buchanan had the following children:
