Because They're
Young (1960)
Images from Because They're Young (1960), adapted by James Gunn from the first
Harrison High book. Directed by Paul Wendkos.

The film version shifts the focus from the
high school kids to the nominal star, Dick Clark (as teacher Neil
Hendry), who had a substantial hand in producing the movie. Called
one of the first "teen noir" films due to its Expressionistic
lighting schemes, the movie also retains the strong gay subtext in
regard to the character of Chris (Rudy Bond) ... quite unusual for
1960, and an interesting backlash against the Blackboard Jungle style of teen film prevalent at the time. The cast
also included a 16-year-old Tuesday Weld, Doug McClure, and cameos by
Duane Eddy and James Darren.
