To support my hobby, I frequently turn to these sites for information, products, or simply emotional support. Social Links: These are clubs, egroups, and non-commercial sites that I enjoy. I haven't organized these links yet. There are loads of them and I need to validate and categorize each one. Commercial Village-related Links: I have done business with all of these sites, and can honestly say I received satisfactory service. Because there are so many local retailers both off-line and with web presences, I don't even try to present them here. However, here are some secondary (retired items) dealers, sellers of miniatures, tools, and other village-enhancing products, and publishers of magazines and books related to villages.
Other shameless plugs: These are entities I am involved with in some way or another. WWW.EARTHLINK.NET is my internet service provider. Because I work from several different locations and travel quite a bit, I need a service provider with a local number in many locations. If you are happy with your ISP, I wouldn't suggest that you change. However, if you are looking for a new ISP, I can highly recommend Earthlink. I have used their customer support several times -- since I can't seem to leave my computer alone, I have had to had their help in fixing problems I created for myself, and their assistance was prompt and accurate. I have never experienced the problems users of other services have reported with busy phone lines, and difficulty in delivering email. If you decide to sign up with Earthlink and tell them I referred you, we each receive a $40 credit. Click here for current details. Amazon.com is my favorite place to buy books -- based on their records of books I have purchased from them, they always have new recommendations when I go to their website, which is about once a week. One of my favorite features about their website is the ability to pre-order a book. I recently signed up as an Amazon associate, which gives me a small commission on books ordered by referral to them. Here are some favorite books of mine that you might enjoy. Or if you like to search for your own treasures, here's a search engine you can use.
Advanced Book Exchange, WWW.ABEBOOKS.COM is an internet site where dealers in rare and out-of-print books can list their books for sale. I have several hundred books from my personal collection (mostly related to movies, celebrities, ancient history -- I was a classics major in college-- and children's books) for sale with ABE. Although none of my books are related to villaging (I wouldn't sell those!) this is a good place to find out-of-print collector guides, and books by or about Dickens or Santa Claus for the die-hard collectors. I have recently signed up to use the paypal service -- this allows buyers of my ebay auction items or books listed with A.B.E. to pay me by credit card. I am new to this service, so I can't tell you yet if it is too good to be true, but I will be happy to share my experience with you if you are interested. Just email me... Currently, Paypal is offering a $5 bonus to people who sign up to use the service. If you sign up using this link, I will also receive a $5 bonus. You can follow this link to get more information without having to sign up -- in fact, I don't recommend that you sign up without reading all you can about the service. Since this is a new service without a long track record of success, if you do sign up, I recommend that you withdraw any funds you receive frequently and keep a careful eye on your credit card statements for erroneous transactions. I've used it for a couple of months and have been happy with the service so far. | |||||||||||
