May 25  This webmaster's little girl grew up and got married at her home, Glen Gables, by the Lake of Shining Wetlands. She surprised her mom by including an LM Montgomery quote from Anne of Avonlea in the wedding program: Perhaps, after all, romance did not come into one's life with pomp and blare, like a gay knight riding down; perhaps it crept to one's side like an old friend through quiet ways; ... perhaps love unfolded naturally out of a beautiful friendship, ..."

July 16  The rain was beating down over the shivering fields. The Haunted Wood was full of the groans of mighty trees wrung in the tempest, and the air throbbed with the thundrous crash of billows on the distant shore.

July 28  Tiger lilies were "burning bright" along the walk and whiffs of honeysuckle went and came on the wings of the dreaming wind.

Quote for the day from The Anne of Green Gables Treasury of Days

The L.M. Montgomery Literary Society is ready to help celebrate the 100th anniversary of the publication of Anne of Green Gables. See our currently scheduled activities and recent events on the Literary Society Events page.

The official Prince Edward Island web page for the centennial is: Anne 2008.

If you are representing an interest in Anne of Green Gables or L.M. Montgomery for community organizations or at the K-12 education level, read on. If you are interested in more in-depth resources, see our More About LMM page. We encourage teachers to use Anne as a read-aloud book for their students this year or use it in Literature Circles. Libraries may wish to add new titles to their Montgomery collection:  100 Years of Anne - The Books (new from Penguin Publishing). Please use our LINKS page for many excellent resources on Montgomery and her books!

What is this book all about? Our own Carolyn Collins and Christina Eriksson's book, Anne of Green Gables Treasury, is a terrific source for students, libraries, and families!  Another wonderful resource for libraries and media centers is The Bend In the Road, an award winning CD rom created by the L.M. Montgomery Institute:

The Bend in Road      and

Threads from a Quilt: a Biography of LM Montgomery This is an excellent film, only in video format.

Our members are willing to do presentations and special programs for groups. We are teachers and readers with interest and expertise in children's literature; we are researchers and writers and enthusiastic fans. Our members have hundreds of early and first edition copies of Montgomery's books available for display. We also have several hard to find videos about Montgomery's life. We have collections of  Montgomery related memorabilia (films, theater), and photo albums of sites on Prince Edward Island.

Pati Kachel is an excellent story teller and has a program that she does on L.M. Montgomery: Pati Katchel, storyteller

Did you know that Anne of Green Gables was first made into a movie in 1919 and then again in the 1930s? The actress who played Anne loved her so much she changed her name to Anne Shirley. How about an old movie night in a local theater? (For more information on Anne movies, see our "Movie" link.)

Wouldn't an Anne of Green Gables Day be a fun event at our local libraries and historical farms, homes, and orchards? Contact your favorite and ask them to host it!

Attend an L.M. Montgomery international conference -- see our Montgomery Conferences link for information.
