We
got Max from the same breeder as Bret with assurances that there was no way this
dog would go oversize. As so often happens, he was bigger than the first
dog.
He was a pheasant specialist that we nicknamed
'the swamp fox'. He spent a summer on the Kansas plains being trained
& that probably would have been his best place to compete as the swamps of
the north just seemed to call to him - and with Max that was all he needed.
Max was obedience trained his first spring.
Entered into four obedience trials he promptly acquired his CD title with four consecutive
scores of 190 - all by thirteen months of age.
He became our son's constant companion. The
one who was called for protection when you had to go down dark hallways or into
the basement. When Boyd was old enough, they went into 4H competition
& made Grand Champion at the County Fair. He was a great family dog
and hunting dog.
