(George3, James2, John1) b. 31 July 1884 @ Port neuf, Quebec, Canada, d. _______1958 (G.S.) @ the Osteopathic Hospital in Portland, m'd _____1905 Ida May Huskins at the Warren Congregational Church, Westbrook, Me. b. ______1882 @ Bangor, Me., d. _______1970 @ Portland, Me. dau of _____________. Robert4 Meehan was a former Chairman of the Portland Board of Aldermen in 1923 and a member of the Common Council, 1920-1923. He was in the milk and ice cream business in the Portland area from 1900 until 31 July 1949 when he retired as Sales Mgr. of the Ice Cream Division for H.P.Hood & Sons. Doris5 (Laffin) Laverty-St. Pierre has stated that this "Robert4 took on the middle name of Lemuel even though not given a middle name at birth". She had further knowledge that "the name, Lemuel, came from Lemuel Babb, one of Robert's best friends. Lemuel Babb worked at the Westbrook Trust Co. and he and Robert4 Meehan were inseparable when they were young". Both Robert4 and Ida are b'd in the family plot, Woodlawn Cemetery, Westbrook, Me. as noted above. Uncle Bob at one time operated his own dairy and ice cream plant before he sold out to the large companies. Wasn't it great to visit him at the plant and sample the free ice cream of various flavors. Loved staying with Uncle Bob & Aunt Ida as they were excellent hosts. She taught me the art of eating "periwinkles" caught at the ocean. Don't know if I could eat one now but they were excellent then. I was named after my Uncle Robert and he had a son Robert Jr. just about my own age.
I remember that Robert Jr. had developed a friendship with many "trolley car" operators and we were able to ride the "trolley cars" around the city of Portland for free as long as we removed ourselves on the stop just before the "car barn".
Children of Robert4 and Ida May (Huskins) Meehan**Not certain as to the order of birth. Will attempt to obtain in furture.
