Here is a synopsis for a screenplay that nobody would ever believe:
- Dull but brash oil money heir -- also intimate pal of Saudi Arabian ruling family and son of a U.S. president -- butchers
several business ventures but lands weak governorship in Texas, mostly on chumminess.
- He runs for presidency, wins on smart-assed 'tude and feigned earthiness (plus stolen votes) against superior but wooden
opponent. Later wins re-election on similar 'tude and wicked good dirty tricks (plus stolen votes) against superior but wooden
opponent.
- Meanwhile, terrorist attack happens. All planes grounded, but oil heir president secretly allows safe passage out of
U.S. for Saudi Arabian family of likely perpetrator of attack.
- Oil heir president seizes on terrorist attack as basis for an irrelevant invasion his crew has already planned. He lies
about intelligence to bolster case for war, falsely claiming target nation has mighty weapons and links to terrorists. Media
believe him and ignore knowledgeable skeptics.
- War goes badly. Very badly. "Liberated" country devastated and tens of thousands die as U.S. sinks into quagmire.
No mighty weapons found. Skeptics proved right. Media, aware of their sacred trust as journalists, now begin to interview
them.
- Oil heir president makes "War On Terror" and vilification of mideast nations who "support" terror
his centerpiece. Perpetrator of principal terrorist attack forgotten.
- Oil heir president's agenda and popularity sink as chickens of unfettered hubris come home to roost: Torture scandal.
Secret gulag network scandal. War contract scandals. CIA outing scandal. Majority leader scandal. Illegal spying scandal.
- Veep shoots campaign contributor with shotgun.
- Things going to hell.
- Secret committee approves management of vital U.S. ports by a mideast nation -- next door to the nation ruled by oil
heir president's intimate friends -- that is home to some terrorists, including one involved in above-mentioned attack on
U.S.
- Oil heir president and crew have bright idea: Defend deal for port management by terrorist-linked nation proximate to
president's intimate friends, and claim the president knew nothing about the deal beforehand.
- White House spokesman dutifully makes announcement.
- Things going further to hell. Implementation of port deal delayed. White House huddles, wonders: Where did we go wrong?
(Conclusion of screenplay is still in creative committee, with alternative endings under discussion. Final version to
go into production soon.)
