Oriental medicine is the oldest, continually practiced medicine in the
world to date. Oriental medicine has been practiced as far back as 5,000 years. Currently one-fourth of
the world's population uses some form of Oriental medicine. It's estimated that nearly one in ten adults (approximately
20 million people) in the United States has received acupuncture.
The basic foundation for Oriental medicine is that there is
a manifested life energy that flows through the body in the aspects of Yin and Yang. The terms "Qi" (chee) and "ki"
(kee), refer to this life energy. This energy flows through the body along pathways known as channels, or meridans.
These meridians link to one another and connect all of our major organs. Illness or dis-ease arises when the flow of
Qi becomes out of balance or is blocked. The main methods applied to re-establish balance are Acupuncture, Moxibustion,
and Herbal medicine.
The practice of Oriental medicine continues to evolve to address our current
conditions. From China, it has spread throughout the world, to Japan, Korea, Europe, Australia and more recently
into the U.S. Clearly playing a role in the American health care system.
