The following is a listing of my DVD collection.  I will be adding mini-reviews to all of these, as well as longer reviews of new movies that I see.  Yes, I do have a DVD problem.  I am a DVDaholic.   *=Lousy, crummy, waste of celluloid, painful to watch, it's too late for me, but save yourselves.  **=Fair, this one's never going to get an Oscar, but if you get a chance to see it, FOR FREE, and if you have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING BETTER TO DO, it won't hurt to sit back and watch it.  ***=Good, you should really make a point of seeing this film at your convenience.  ****=FREAKING AMAZING, A GIFT FROM THE MOVIE GODS! DROP WHATEVER YOU ARE DOING, AND GO BUY OR RENT THIS MOVIE!  EVEN IF YOU ARE VISITING YOUR DYING MOTHER, LEAVE HER BEDSIDE AND GO WATCH THIS FILM!!!!!!!!  (if a film here doesn't have a review, either I haven't gotten around to writing one yet, or I haven't watched the film yet, or I haven't watched it recently enough to give it a fair review.  Also, please forgive some of the areas that seem messed up below.  This website authoring program has some definite bugs in it.)

Additions for Feb. 23rd, 2008

9 Songs **Two young people meet and find love while following rock band tours

28 Weeks Later ****Hardcore frightening and fast paced sequel, superior to the original 'zombie' film

Apocalypto **Mel Gibson got a bit too experimental in this historical film about a Mayan taken captive by slavers, trying to escape and save his wife and child.  Lush filming, but the story is weak.

Asylum **A woman, bored with her doctor husband, has an affair with a patient in the mental hospital he works at.

Black Christmas (2006) *Pretty bad remake of the old slasher flick.  A few scares, but not worth seeing.

Blackbeard ***Very good made for TV movie about the life of the infamous pirate.

Blood Diamond **A group of people have their lives linked and forever changed by the evils of the diamond trade in Africa.

Bloodsucking Cinema ***A very good documentary about the history of vampires in film.

Body Shots **A group of young singles has their party filled lifestyle drastically interupted when one of the girls accuses one of the guys of rape.

Borat **Silly comedy about a guy from a small poor European country travelling across America to find Pamela Anderson.  Quite a few laughs, but quite a few groan inducing scenes as well.

Bridge to Terribithia **Two lonely kids create a magical land all their own.  Not as family friendly as it seems though, as it does deal with some very real, very heartwrenching events.

Catacombs *Ravers get lost in the catacombs beneath Paris, and are stalked by a killer

Catch and Release **A young widow tries to get living again after her husbands death.  Kevin Smith plays one of her friends, and really lifts the quality of an otherwise kind of dull film.

Child of the Living Dead *Really bad unofficial Living Dead sequel about a particularly evil and hard to kill zombie.

Children of Men ***Very good.  In the future, humans have become sterile, and the hope for humanity rests with one pregnant miracle girl, and the man trying to deliver her to safe haven.

Codename: The Cleaner**Comedy about a man who wakes up with amnesia and gets sucked into some silly spy intrigue.

Commando  ***Typical 80's shoot em up.  Arnie plays a retired special ops soldier who goes back into action when his daughter is kidnapped.

Crank ***Fun gimmicky action film.  A thug is poisoned and will die if he adreniline level drops and he calms down at all.  So he tries to stay in a state of constant excitement until he can find and kill the men who poisoned him.

Deja Vu ***Cool sci-fi.  Starts as a typical police murder mystery thriller.  But when the head detective gets access to some special equipment, he discovers that he might be able to change history so the murder never happens.

Dorm Daze 2 *Bad teen sex comedy.

Dream Girls ***Good musical based on the early days of Diana Ross and the Supremes.

Dukes of Hazzard The Beginning **Fair prequel.  Not nearly as bad as I thought it would be (with the exception of some really bad CGI General Lee jumps)

Election***An annoying perky and ambitious high school student annoys a teacher whose life is rapidly collapsing around him.

Employee of the Month**A slacker employee at a Costco like superstore tries to impress the hot new cashier by winning the employee of the month title away from the putz that  wins it every month.

Entrapment ***An insurance investigator gets tied up with a master thief and tries to convince him to go for one more big score.

Epic Movie *Bad parody of several recent action films.

Failure to Launch ***A girl takes a job trying to make a single slacker guy grow up and move out of his parents house.  Cute.

Fantastic 4 2: Rise of the Silver Surfer *** The Fantastic Four deals with the alien Silver Surfer, a being that's come to Earth to prepare it for the planet devouring entitiy known as Galactus.

Fargo ***Great dark comedy about a small town police woman trying to solve a local murder.

Flags of Our Fathers ****Clint Eastwoods directorial masterpeice about the men who planted the flag at Iwo Jima

Flushed Away ***Cute animated story about a pet rat who gets flushed into the world of the 'wild' rats in the sewers under London.

Fracture ****A man kills he wife, and then basically dares the police and a hot shot young lawyer to prove it.  Anthony Hopkins plays a character who is basically 'Hannibal Lechter-Lite'

Halloween (2007) **Meh....It's not a bad slasher film, but the character is nothing like the original Michael Myers (with the exceptions of the name and mask).  Would've been much more enjoyable if this was about a new original slasher.

Happy Birthday to Me *One of the cheesier of the cheesey 80's slasher flicks.

Happy Feet ***Cute animated film about a quest taken by a young penguin (with a thing for dancing)

Hard Candy **Disturbing film about a young girl taking revenge on a man she believes to be a child molester.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix *** Good, but not one of the better Potter films.  This one basically serves as 'filler' between more important story elements.  When the wizard community refuses to believe that Voldemort has returned, Harry and his friends secretly start forming a young wizard army to fight the dark lord.

Hatchet **So-so horror/comedy about a bayou stalking slasher.  It's not scary enough to be a great horror film, and not funny enough to be in that 'Evil Dead 2' category.

High Fidelity ***A romantic comedy about a music store owner and the difficulties of his love life.

Highlander: The Source *Horrible, poorly made, and doesn't fit into the Highlander mythos at all.   Actually makes Highlander 2 seem good by comparison.  The main bad guy actually attacks by moving like a Tasmanian Devil style tornado.  Painfully bad.

Hollywoodland ***Very good dramatization of the life and death of George Reeves, TV's Superman from the 1950's show.

Hostel ***Creepy and grizzly.  Tourists in a small European town are taken prisoner in a place where rich people pay to be able to torture and kill people.

Hot Fuzz **Okay dark comedy about a hero cop who gets tranferred to a small British town, and discovers that trouble lurks in the little village.

Idiocracy **A man and a girl travel to the not too distant future and find that the populace are all idiots.  It's not a great movie, but it touches on a very real problem, the dumbing down of America.

Keeping Mum ***A dysfunctional English family hires a nanny, who just happens to  have recently gotten out of an asylum where she was sent for murdering her husband.  Good dark comedy.

Knocked Up ****Great romantic comedy about a slacker who gets a professional woman pregnant during a one night stand, and tries to do the right thing.

Last King of Scotland ***Good, disturbing story about the evil Ugandan dictator Idi Amin, told from the point of view of a man forced to act as his doctor.

Less Than Zero ***Good 80's drama about 3 longtime friends whose lives are torn apart by drug addiction.

Live Free or Die Hard ***John McClane is back, trying to stop a computer genius from taking the country hostage.  Probably the weakest of the Die Hard films, but hey, it's freaking Die Hard! YAY!

Lucky Number Slevin ***Mistaken identities, warring crime lords, and a lot of deaths.  This is a great action/mystery/thriller.  Very fun and enjoyable.

Man of the Year ***Robin Williams as a funny TV personality who runs for President.  Very good.

Milk Money**Fair.  A young boy gets a prostitute (with a heart of gold, naturally)  to spend time with his lonely widower father.

Music and Lyrics ***Fun.  A one hit wonder from the 80's finds an unlikely muse in the girl who takes care of his plants, as he attempts to write a new song for a Britney-like pop star.  Hugh Grant does a very impressive job of singing, and recreating the 80's look and sound.

Nacho Libre **Kind of funny story about a Mexican monk who takes up professional wrestling to raise money for the orphanage he works at.   Jack Black does his usual shtick.

O Brother Where Art You ***Very good musical about four escaped convicts in the old South who end up being recording stars.

Open Season ***Cute CGI movie about a domesticated bear that returns to the wild and tries to help his fellow animals ward off a group of hunters.

Pans Labyrinth ****A girl in Spain during WWII, escapes the horrors of her small village by entering a wonderous and often frightening fantasy land.

Patch Adams ***Based on a true story about a medical student who believes that laughter is truly the best medicine.  Great performance by Robin Williams.

Pathfinder *Pretty bad.  A viking child is left behind after a raid on a Native American village (before they were called Native Americans), and grows up to defend the natives from a later viking attack.

Perfect Strangers ***Murder mystery thriller.  After a friend is killed, a reporter tries to spy on/seduce the powerful advertising executive she believes to be responsible.

Pirates of the Caribbean 3 ***Good wrap up to the Pirate trilogy.  Nice story and effects

Primevil *A news team runs into trouble with the local African government while on a mission to capture a giant crocodile.

Pursuit of Happyness ****Based on a true story.  Will Smith plays a poor man in 1980's New York, who goes to every length imaginable to become a success in the business world, and amazingly manages to do it.

Return of the Vampire ***Low budget film that's basically another chapter in the Dracula story (without using the name), and starring the great Bela Lugosi.  Very good, and if you're a fan of the old Universal monster films, it's worth seeing.

Scary Movie 4*Another sad parody of recent horror and sci fi films.

Serpent and the Rainbow ***An anthropologist travels to Haiti and gets caught up in the local voodoo practicioners.  Good thriller.

Shrek 3 ***The Shrek series is running out of steam, but is still good.  Shrek is stuck being King and wants no part of it, so he sets off to locate and bring back a young Arthur, the future king.

Shrek the Halls **Cute made for TV Shrek Christmas special, as Shrek learns the value of family and friends.

Smoking Aces ***Several hit men are pitted against each other as they are all hired to kill a failing mob boss.

Snakes on a Plane **Snakes.  On a plane.  What else is there to say?

Spider Man 3 ***Spidey confronts Venom, the Sandman, and his own dark side.  Also the conclusion of the Goblin saga.  The weakest episode of the trilogy, but still good.

Stardust ***A young man saves a fallen star (that has taken human form) from witches that want to consume her to regain their youth.  Better than it sounds, really.  Story by Neil Gaiman.

Stranger Than Fiction ***A man suddenly realizes that his life is a story written in a book by an unseen author.  Weird concept, but pretty cool.

Tenacious D the Pick of Destiny **The supposed history of the band Tenacious D.  Typical Jack Black.

The Departed ***A cop and a crook, who may not be what they seem, get involved in a bitter battle between the Boston police and a local crime lord.

The Fountain **Acid trip of a movie.  In the past, present and future, a man tries to use the fountain of youth to save the love of his life. (At least I think that was what was going on.  As I said, it's like an acid trip)

The Guardian ***A high school swim champion with a troubled past enrolls in the U.S. Coast Guard's "A" School, where legendary rescue swimmer Ben Randall teaches him some hard lessons about loss, love, and self-sacrifice

The Heartbreak Kid ***Really funny, but pretty raunchy.  A single guy marries a girl impulsively, only to find out that she's a bit of a psycho, meanwhile real love is just out of reach.

The Hitcher (2007) ***Decent remake of the dark thriller.  A hitchhiking psychopath makes life hell for a young couple.

The Holiday ****Very cute romantic comedy.  Two women, both unlucky in love, switch homes (and countries) for a vacation.  Cameron Diaz is good as the L.A. girl moving to a little English village, but Kate Winslet steals the show as the sweet British girl moving to L.A.

The Last Mimzy **Two children find a strange artifact which changes their lives in many ways, but the artifact has a mission of it's own.

The Messengers ***A family moves into an old farm, and things get creepy.  But are the apparent 'ghosts' there to hurt them, or to warn them of a greater danger?

The Omen *Pretty bad remake of the classic horror about the anti-Christ being born.

The Prowler *Just another 80's slasher film.  Standard formula. Something bad happens to a guy, years later he shows up and starts killin'.

The Unnameable *Cheesy horror.  A weird creature is locked up in an old house, where it is discovered by some unfortunate college students.

The Weatherman **A weatherman, miserable with his life, finds inner-peace through a series of strange events.

Tom Cats **Goofy comedy about a group of guys with a bet as to which one will be the last to get married.

Turistas**Fairly good.  Tourists in Brazil get stranded and grabbed by a local crime lord.

Ultimate Avengers 2 ***Nice animated Avengers tale.  The Black Panther enlists the help of the Avengers to battle alien invaders.

Vacancy ***Cool very tension filled thriller about a young couple who stops at an out of way motel and, without spoiling anything, lets just say that things go poorly for them.

Village of the Damned  ***Creepy story about a group of creepy little children who take over a small town.

Wild Hogs ***Cute comedy.  A group of middle aged guys decide to take a motorcycle trip cross country.

Additions for Aug. 15th, 2007

10 Things I Hate About You**Modern retelling of 'Taming of the Shrew'.  Uneven but funny on occasion.

300****Amazing stylized retelling of the famous battle.  Simplified story, and dripping with testosterone, but the visuals are so amazing that I can watch this film over and over.

40 Days and 40 Nights**Studly guy tries to go 40 days without sex, while his friends try to break his resolve.

8mm***P.I. investigating a murder in a snuff film finds himself far too deep into the seedy world of kinky sex clubs and murder for entertainment.

A Scanner Darkly**Weird animation style is all that makes this story about drug addicts in the near future really watchable.

Accepted***Kids who get rejected by colleges start their own school.  Funny.

American Dreamz****GREAT parody of both 'American Idol' and US/Middle East relations.

American Haunting**Retelling of the supposedly true story of the 19th century 'Bell Witch' haunting.

An Inconvenient Truth**Al Gore's film about his opinions on global warming.

Bandidas**Silly Western about two sexy women doing the whole noble thieves thing.

Beerfest**Silly.  A group of Americans enter a secret European beer drinking competition.

Bloody Murder*A killer in a hockey goalie mask murders attractive teenage summer camp employees.....Hmmmm.....Where have I seen this before?

Cars****CGI tale about a flashy sports car who gets stuck in a little, beaten down desert town, and learns some lessons.  Another great by Pixar.

Casino Royale****Metrosexual Bond is gone, and we've got an ass-kicking tough guy Bond back.  Crazy sci-fi gadgets are replaced by more 'realistic' gear.   Great first Bond for Daniel Craig.

Ciderhouse Rules****A brilliant young man, raised in an orphanage, goes out to experience the world.  Great story and acting.

Dancing at the Blue Iguana**Drama about the lives of various dancers from the Blue Iguana strip club.

Dark Ride**Some kids discover a real monster inside a carnival haunted house attraction.

Die Hard 2***John's bad luck and timing continue, as he gets entangled in a terrorist attack at an airport.  Probably the weakest of the original Die Hard trilogy, but still good.

Eragon***A young man bonds with a rare dragon, and together they try to bring freedom to their land.

Ghost Rider**Ghostie looks cool in this film, but the story and lots of the acting are painfully weak.  Lots of lost potential here.  Cage is good, though.

Godzilla Raids Again**Standard Japanese giant monster fun.  This wasn't originally intended to be a sequel to the original Godzilla, but since the suit was virtually the same, the film was eventually repackaged as a sequel.

Going to Pieces***Good documentary about the slasher films of the 80's

Grave Dancers**3 Drunk friends dance upon the grave of a deceased friend, unleashing haunting nastiness against them.

Gridiron Gang****Great.  Based on a true story about a worker at a juvenile detention facility in California.  By teaching the kid's football, and it's teamwork, he reaches these amateur criminals and manages to turn most of their lives around.

Head*Bizarre acid trip of a movie starring The Monkees.

Imagine Me and You**A young bride develops a crush on the female florist who handled her wedding.

Inside Man***Intense film about an ingenious bank robbery that turns out to be more than it initially appears.

Instinct****Anthony Hopkins plays a convicted murderer who,  after spending years living solely in the company of gorillas, views morals and social interactions in much the same way as a gorilla would.

Jaws 2**This movie isn't that bad, it just pales by comparison to the original.  Pretty basic, shark eats people, Sheriff Brody tries to save people and kill shark.  That's about it.

John Tucker Must Die***A group of girls who had all had their hearts broken by a high school stud plan an elaborate revenge.

Little Man**A convict midget hides out as a baby in the home of an unexpecting couple.

Lord of War***A major weapons dealer gets introspective about his life.

Maid in Manhattan*A classy hotel maid impersonates a rich woman in order to spend time with a wealthy hotel guest.

Manderlay**A young idealistic woman comes across a Southern plantation that somehow never found out about the freeing of the slaves.   Filmed stage play.

Miami Vice*Horrid remake of the classic 80's show.

Mission Impossible 3***Another excellent entry in the Tom Cruise action series.

Monster House***3 kids discover that a house in their neighborhood is alive, and pretty nasty.  Good CGI.

My Super Ex-Girlfriend***Pretty amusing, especially if you've ever had a psycho ex.  A guy dates, then dumps a superhero.  Now picture a psycho ex that can put your car in a tree or throw a shark at you....

Night at the Museum****Great family film about a night watchman who discovers that, after the museum where he works closes for the night, all the exhibitions come to life.

Over the Hedge***A group of small forest animals discover what life is like on the 'human' side of a large hedge.

Penny Dreadful**A girl and her therapist on a road trip encounter a serial killer.

Pink Panther (2006)*Bad remake of the classic comedy.

Pulse**Undead phantoms find their way into our world through electronic communication devices.  Some pretty chilling images.

Reincarnation**A film crew, doing a movie about a mass killing, become possessed by the spirits of the killer and the victims.

Rocky Balboa****Great!  Well acted, good story.  An aged Rocky decides he wants one last fight.

Sex and Lucia***A heartbroken young woman has a rather erotic vacation.  A bit hard to follow.

Silent Hill*Some very creepy images, but an otherwise pretty lousy film

Sleepaway Camp**One of the coolest of the cheesy 80's slasher films.  Great infamous twist ending.

Slums of Beverly Hills***A family in California lives a gypsy like existance.  Funny and touching.

Smokey and the Bandit***Classic.  A couple of guys take a bet to smuggle beer across country.  Great comedic acting.

Talladega Nights***Goofy tale about a stupid and arrogant Nascar racer.  I'm really not a Will Farrell fan, but this is pretty funny.

Thank You For Smoking***Funny parody about a guy whose job it is to put a positive spin on cigarette smoking, and keep it attractive.

The Covenant**So-so story about teenage wizards who come into conflict in modern day Salem.

The Dreamers**An American teen moves in with a sexually free European brother and sister.

The Hamiltons**A story about a twisted evil family, and a young sibling who wishes to escape from the fold.

The Illusionist****A young and talented magician makes an enemy of the local prince, and pits his illusions against the prince's power.

The Lady in the Water***A sad and lonely handy man encounters a magical being that needs his help..

The Lake House***A young man and woman, both staying at the same lake house, but at different moments in time, manage to communicate and fall in love.

The Notorious Bettie Page***Great biopic about the legendary pin-up girl.

The Prestige****In the early 20th century, two magicians battle over which of them is the greatest magician.   But, in the end, it's science, not magic, that makes the difference.

The Vanishing***A young couple on a road trip stop at a rest stop, and the woman vanishes.  Years later, the man is still obsessed with his vanished ex, much to the annoyance of his new girlfriend.   The hard part is that the man is played by Keifer Sutherland, and I kept expecting him to call into CTU for help.

The Wild***Some NY city zoo animals end up shipped to Africa.  Nice CGI

The Zodiac**Fair dramatization of the investigation into the Zodiac killer.

Unrest**Undead folk haunt a medical school.

Urban Legend**A serial killer bases his killings on famous urban legends.

DVD Additions for March 6, 2007

13 Blocks**Bruce Willis plays a down and out cop who has to transport a witness that a cunch of crooked cops want dead.  The rapper playing the witness is so annoying, you'll want him dead, too.

20 Million Miles to Earth****Sci Fi classic with great Ray Harryhausen effects.  An alien lifeform is brought to Earth, where it grows to gigantic size and terrorizes Spain.

3 Amigos***Very funny classic.  Three actors, known for playing cowboy heroes, are recruited by a Mexican village(who think that they're real cowboy heroes) to save the village from evil bandits.

4 Brothers***Four rough and tough brothers reunite to avenge the murder of their adopted mother.  Great cast, great action.

Big Momma’s House 2*More tired black guy pretending to be a fat, black woman humor. Blah.

Conan the Destroyer**Conan and his posse' try to save a princess from a sorcerer and an evil queen.

Done the Impossible***Documentary about how the fans of the television show 'Firefly' saved the show from oblivion and got the film 'Serenity' green-lighted.

Final Destination 3**Let's face it, this is one series people definitely watch just for the creative deaths.  This one has some beauties in it.   A kid has a vision of a rollercoaster accident and causes several kids to narrowly aviod death.  Then death comes a lookin' for the kids who avoided it's grasp.

Firewall**A bank security man and his family are taken hostage by criminals who want to force him to get them past the bank's security systems.

Grandma’s Boy***Very funny bit of fluff from Adam Sandler's crew.  Not much of a story, just a look at the life of a stoner slacker working as a video game tester.

Hellboy: Sword of Storms***The cast of the Hellboy movie returns to voice this animated adventure that finds Hellboy fighting demons in Japan.

High Tension*Two students travel to stay at a family home in the country and cross the path of a mysterious killer.  Kind of lame.

Invincible Iron Man***Fair story with really good animation.  Industrialist Tony Stark ends up on the bad side of a rebel group in Japan.  To stop the resurrection of an evil wizard, he must don a futuristic suit of armor and battle four elemental demons.

Munich***Powerful dramatization of the terrorist attacks at the 1972 Olympics and the aftermath.

Munster Go Home**The Munsters inherit an English mansion and some nasty relatives try and drive them away.  Silly, but not horrible.

Munster’s Revenge*Pretty horrible.   Munster fans only.  Evil scientist makes Munster robots who commit crimes.

Night of the Comet**Silly but entertaining.  Two valley girls and a trucker are among the very few survivors after a comet passes closely by Earth, disintergrating or zombifying pretty much everyone.

Phenomenon***Travolta is good as a small town simpleton who develops telekinetic and healing powers.

Prime**So-so.  A middle-aged woman starts dating a younger man, only to discover that her new boyfriend is the son of her therapist.

Reindeer Games**Ben Affleck plays a guy, just out of prison, who gets conned into helping out in a Casino heist.

Rumor Has It**A young reporter discovers that her family was the basis for the film 'The Graduate', and that the same man has slept with three generations of her family.

Run Lola Run***Weird movie.  A punk girl has to quickly get money to save her boyfriends life.  Several different versions of how she attempts to get the money, each presented as if the other versions didn't happen, are acted out.

Sarah Silverman: Jesus is Magic***Comedy routine+skits+musical numbers.  Sarah Silverman is equal parts funny, raunchy and cute, and is a pretty decent singer to boot.

Species II*Evil alien hybrd, this time male, tries to mate and take over the world.

Species III*Not quite as evil alien hybrid, this time female, tries to mate and maybe not take over the world.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning**Truly disturbing movie about how old Leatherface and his twisted family came to be.

The DaVinci Code***A man is hurled into a mystery that spans many miles and many years, and reveals a stunning secret about the life of Jesus.

The Family Stone**A young professional woman meets her boyfriends overly uptight family for the first time.

The Hills Have Eyes (2006) ***Scary and disturbing.  Vacationers get lost in the desert and are preyed upon by radioactive mutants.

The Libertine**The story of John Wilmot (Depp), a.k.a. the Earl of Rochester, a 17th century poet who famously drank and debauched his way to an early grave, only to earn posthumous critical acclaim for his life's work.  Johnny Depp really gets into the role.  Slow at times, but interesting.

The New World***Lavish but sometimes slow retelling of the John Smith/Pocahontas story.   I like the Disney cartoon better.

Urban Legend 2**Kids at a film school start dying in murders based on famous urban legends.

Urban Legend 3*Urban legend 'Bloody Mary' starts racking up her own body count. Lame and slow.

DVD Additions for New Years Day, 2007

A History of Violence****Great film about a retired hitman who goes straight, only to have his old life threaten to ruin his idealic new life.

An Evening With Kevin Smith II***Another amusing selection of Kevin Smith's live appearances.  Very funny, but strictly for Smith fans.

Arthur***Ah...The good old days when we could laugh at alcoholism. ;)  Dudley Moore is hilarious as a childlike, usually drunk, millionaire.  Silly but funny.

Arthur 2**The bottle ran dry on this kind of forced sequel.

Barely Legal**A group of teens in dire need of cash try to get into porn production.  A few laughs, but few and far between.

Benchwarmers***A pretty funny film about a group of adult losers helping 'nerds' fight obnoxious jock little leaguers.

Beyond the Sea****Exceptional bio-pic with Kevin Spacey as Bobby Darin.  Great acting and great music.

Bloodrayne*Horrible mess about a vampire hunting hottie....Painfully bad.

Carrie***An abused and constantly picked on nerdy teenage girl develops telekinetic powers and uses them to get revenge on her abusers.

Cheaper By the Dozen 2**Uninspired sequel.  The family goes on vacation together, and ends up yanked into dad's rivalry with the father of another large family.

Chicken Little**Cute CGI update of the old kid's story.

Clerks II****Hilarious!  This film brings us up to date with the aging Dante and Randal, still working nowhere jobs and starting to examine their lived.  As usual with Smith films, the dialog is wonderful, and Rosario Dawson is a wonderful addition to the cast.

Click***Cute.  Adam Sandler acquires a magic remote control with which he can control his life as if it were a DVD player.  Funny, but with a real tear-jerking message to it.

Dazed and Confused**Kinda fun 70's movie about a group of kids on the verge of graduating from high school.

De-Lovely***Interesting bio-pic about composer/musician Cole Porter, and his unusual marriage arrangement. (He was gay, she didn't care.)

Domino*Crappy semi-true bio-pic about model turned bounty hunter Domino Harvey.  Comes across like a very bad music video.

Doom*Blah video game adaption about a group of commandoes sent  to another planet to kill monsters.

Dr. Phibes Returns**Just bizarre 70's horror film about an immortal, disfigured mad scientist who is trying to bring his dead wife back to life.  Verging on the 'so bad it's good' quality.

Fun With Dick and Jane**When a well off young couple loses all their money, they try to turn to a life of crime.

Halloween III: The Season of the Witch***An oddity of a film..The only installment of the 'Halloween' series that has nothing to do with the Michael Meyers story.  In this one an evil businessman produces demonically possessed Halloween masks intended to kill the children who wear them.

Howard the Duck**Not nearly as horrible as it's made out to be.  Silly movie about a duck from another dimension who comes to Earth and gets caught up battling evil.

I Walk the Line****Fantastic bio-pic about Johnny Cash!  Great acting and music.

Ice Age: The Meltdown***The sloth, the mammoth, and the sabre-tooth tiger try to escape the rising waters caused by the rapidly melting remains of the ice age.

Just Like Heaven***The spirit of a young woman falls in love with the new occupant of her old apartment.   But things aren't as they seem.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang***Very funny tongue in cheek film noirish adventure.

Meet the Parents***A male nurse has a whole lot of fun when he has to meet his fiancee's rather unapproving family.

Memoirs of a Geisha****Great movie about a young girl, sold into slavery and eventually brought into the equally glamorous and horrid life of a geisha.

Midnight Run****A bounty hunter has to transport a rather difficult prisoner across the country.  Very funny.

North Country***Strong drama about a woman facing sexual harrassment while working at a coal mine (before the days of sexual harrassment laws)

Notting Hill**Kinda cute romantic comedy about a simple Englishman who falls in love with an American actress.

Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Dead Man’s Chest**The story's just so-so, but the visuals are pretty amazing in this chapter of the Pirate trilogy.  (The plots a bit too convoluted to try and explain here.)

Poltergeist II: The Other Side**So-so sequel with a few creepy moments.  The ending is horribly rushed, as the actor playing the main 'bad guy' died half way through the shooting of the film.

Poseidon**Fair remake of the classic film.  Some good effects and such, but it was a film that really didn't need to be made.

Rocky****The great story of a poor young Italian thug who gets a shot at being the heavy weight boxing champion of the world.  A classic underdog film.

Rocky II***A good sequel.  Rocky's opponent from the first film demands a new fight, seeking for a more definitive win against the Italian Stallion.

Rumor Has It***A young journalist discovers that her family is the basis for the movie 'The Graduate', and that every generation of women in her family tend to sleep with the same man.

Sahara***Treasure hunters search for a Civil War ship that somehow ended up in the Sahara desert (And get tangled up with some evil bastards in the process)

Sam Kinison: Why Did We Laugh?***Very good documentary about the life and death of the great comedian.

Shopgirl**A young girl in a love triangle has to choose between a young artist, and an older wealthy man.

Singles**Intersecting stories about several young people and their attempts to navigate the storms of the dating world.

Slither***Goofy, tongue in cheek silly sci-fi/horror movie throw back to the films of the 50's.  Alien body snatching wormy things invade a small town.

Superman 2: The Richard Donner Cut***Very interesting alternate version of the classic film.  It's edited together a bit choppily (understandable under the circumstances), but a must see for fans.

Superman Returns**So-so update to the Superman series.  The actor playing Superman is just adequate, and Lex Luthor's 'evil plan' is painfully stupid.  There are some nice visuals, however.

The Matador***An aging hitman makes reluctant buddies with a meek businessman.  Pretty funny.

Tristan and Isolde***Nicely done version of the ancient romantic about star crossed lovers.

Ultraviolet*Cheesy sci fi about a superpowered woman fighting a corrupt government.

Undead**Cheesy fun.  A meteor shower turns people into zombies.

Underworld: Evolution ***Good sequel.  Selene battles an ancient super vampire.

Wall Street***A young banker is thrown into the corrupt and viscious world of Wall Street big business.

When a Stranger Calls (2006)* Pretty lame remake of the old horror film.

Wolf Creek**Hikers in the Australian outback encounter a serial killer.

World Trade Center***Impressive film about two fire fighters who were trapped in the rubble of the World Trade Center.

Indian in the Cupboard**A little boy finds a magical box which can turn toys into living beings.  He befriends a few of these beings, including an Indian who teaches the boy some valuable lessons.

It Came From Beneath the Sea***Ray Harryhausens amazing stop motion effects ARE the reason to watch this film about a giant octopus attacking the west coast.  There is also some rather hilarious dialog about the dawn of feminism.

The Island***Visually stunning tale about a couple of clones on the run from a corporation that wants to use them as spare parts for rich clients.

The Longest Yard (2006)**So-so remake about a former football star who's sent to prison and leads the prisoners in a football fame against the guards.

DVD Updates for June 25, 2006

Antz***Pretty good computer animated tale of a lowly worker ant who saves his colony from disaster.

Chicken Run***Pretty funny.  A group of chickens try to escape from the farm before they're turned into pies.

Corpse Bride**So-so stop motion animated tale about a man who finds himself involved with the land of the dead and a deceased bride.  Looks like Nightmare Before Christmas, but nowhere near as good.

Cry_Wolf***A group of students pull a prank regarding a fictional killer, only to have the prank turn deadly.

Dark Water**Overly long and drawn out horror tale about a single mom and her child in an apartment building haunted by drips.

Duece Bigalow: European Gigilo**Kinda fun in a very stupid way.  Duece gets involved with a mystery when European Gigilos become the target of a serial killer.

Guess Who?**A bigoted black man is horrified when his daughter brings home a white fiancee.  Occasionally funny, occasionally very dull.

Indecent Proposal***A poor young couple sees the solution to all their financial woes when a rich businessman offers a small fortune for one night with the poor woman.

Superman III*Only worth watching for Christopher Reeve.  A bad guy tries to control the weather, and Richard Pryor tries to make this a comedy.

Superman IV*Only worth watching for Christoper Reeve.  Lex Luthor makes a cheesy supervillain (the Nuclear Man) who growls alot and wants to kill Superman.  Oh, and Superman tries to get rid of the world's nuclear weapons.

The Brothers Grimm***Two brothers, con men who specialize in killing fake monsters, find themselves facing a real supernatural menace, one which greatly resembles many classic fairie tales.

The Exorcism of Emily Rose****Chilling.  A girl dies during an exorcism, resulting in a trial which tries to determine if she was, indeed, possessed, or merely crazy.  Nicely done.

Unleashed***The best Jet Li film I've seen.  Li plays an enforcer, trained since youth to follow the commands of a crimelord.  When the two are seperated, Li's character falls in with a kindly family who teaches him the joys of life.  Nice mix of comedy, action, and touching drama, with great performances all around.

Waiting**Dark comedy about a few days in the life of a restaurant waitstaff.  After watching this, you may not want to ever eat out again.

Wishmaster**An evil genie uses people's wishes against them while on a murderous rampage.

Robots***Nicely done.  A young robot with dreams of being an inventor goes to the big city to live his dreams.

Six Days and Seven Nights***In the tropics, an abrasive young city woman ends up stranded on a deserted island with a carefree island pilot.  Harrison Ford and Anne Heche have a good chemistry together.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe***Pretty good fantasy film which falls somewhere between the Harry Potter films and the Lord of the Rings films.  A group of young siblings are transported to a fantastic land, filled with mythological creatures, and get involved in a war to rule the land.

The Man With Two Brains***Silly.  Steve Martin plays a brain surgeon who falls in love with a disembodied brain.  Nice parody of 50's sci fi.

Weekend at Bernies***Two young execs get involved in all sorts of plots, while attempting to hide the fact that their boss is dead.

Weekend at Bernies II**So-so sequel.  Bernie's back, this time as a zombie with the secret of the location of much hidden loot.

DVD Additions for April 1st, 2006

11:14***The lives of several people intersect, with disasterous consequences, one night at 11:14pm.  Clever.

Alien Nation****Great movie, which paints an interesting portrait of  racism.  A ship full of space alien slaves is stranded in California.  It's interesting to see how civilization might react if white people were suddenly faced with having to live along side a vastly more powerful and intelligent race.

An Eye For an Eye***Sally Field plays a mother who seeks revenge after the killer of her daughter escapes justice.

Armageddon***Better than most people say.  Good effects and likeable characters highlight this story about a bunch of drillers sent to destroy an asteroid a collision course with Earth.

Batteries Not Included***A group of small spaceships help some tenants save their old building from destruction at the hands of corrupt developers.

Flashdance***A young, head strong, steel worker dreams of being a professional dancer.  Oh...What a feeling.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire****Harry finds himself pitted against young wizards from other schools in a decidedly deadly series of competitions.

Herbie:Fully Loaded***Cute.  A young girl with dreams of Nascar,  rescues the old VW from the garbage dump, and the two become an unbeatable team.

House 4 **So-so entry in this comedy/horror series.  A woman inherits a house that is, you can probably guess, a bit more than it seems.

I Love You to Death***Pretty funny.  An overworked woman decides to have her cheating husband killed, but it's never quite as simple as that, is it?

I’m Gonna Git You Sucka**Wayan's brothers parody of all the old black expoitation films.  Funny, but drags in spots.

Irish Jam***Far better than I expected.  Eddie Griffin plays a NY street hustler who ends up winning an Irish pub, in an Irish village.  The 'fish out of water' plot works well, and the film boasts some very nice Irish music.

King Kong (2005)****Peter Jackson's great remake of the classic film.  It gets a bit long, but it's truly enchanting.  Most amazing is the flawless recreation of 1930's New York.

Mad Dog and Glory***A cop saves a mobsters life, and the mobster returns the favor by giving the cop a female companion for a week.  Robert DeNiro, Bill Murray and Uma Thurman are all very good in their roles.

Mindhunters***A group of government agency trainees go to a secluded training facility, only to find that a killer is there with them.

Rambo III**Rambo goes to the middle East, and, oops....fights alongside the people we're....um....kinda fighting with now.

Revenge of the Pink Panther**More silliness from Peter Sellers as the wacky Inspector Closeau.

Slaughterhouse Five**Weird film.  A man finds himself moving backwards and forwards in time, from his youth during World War II to his future, trapped like a zoo animal, on a distant planet.

Spyhard**Leslie Neilsen does his usual tricks in this spoof which attempts to give 'Airplane' like laughs, but falls short.

Star Man****An alien crashes on Earth, takes the shape of a woman's dead husband, and travels cross country to try and find a way home.

Stargate***The military discover a portal to a strange new world, and accidentally almost cause Earth to face an invasion.

Stir Crazy**Two struggling actors end up in prison.  Pretty funny.

The Believers***A family finds itself at the mercy of a voodoo cult.

The Birds****A Hitchcock classic.  Flocks of birds start to attack humans.  Scarier than it sounds.

The Craft***Four young girls start experimenting with magic, and three of them fall victim to the temptations of it's darker side.

Trilogy of Terror II**Three new lame short stories.  Wouldn't be worth seeing, except for the return of the homicidal, psychotic 'Zuni Fetish' doll.

Ultimate Avengers**This one did not live up to it's hype at all.  The story is mediocre, and the art isn't much better than the standard Saturday morning fair.  Pretty disappointing.

DVD Additions for Feb. 20th, 2006

A Love Song for Bobby Long***A pessimistic young girl inherits a house from her mother, only to find that she has to share it with two of her mother's alcoholic, yet scholarly, friends.  Very touching.

Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl**A young boy goes on an adventure with two imaginary super hero friends.  Cute on occasion, but not very good.

Burnt Offerings***Creepy 1970's 'family moves into secluded haunted house' film.  Moody and chilling.

Bye Bye Love***Touching, funny, and realistic.  Three divorced friends deal with living the single life again.

Cool Surface*An anti-social writer gets involved with a femme-fatale while trying to get a film made.

Cool World**A cartoonist finds himself transported into the world of his own cartoons and encounters a scheming toon that wants to be human.  Lots of good parts, but they don't come together to make this a good film.

Evita***Madonna and Antonio Banderas do a good job at bringing this Andrew Lloyd Webber musical to the screen.

Mirrormask***Bizarre and trippy to the extreme!  Writer Neil Gaiman, illustrator Dave McKean and Henson studios bring to life this 'Alice in Wonderland' like tale.  The visuals in this film are like nothing you've ever seen.  The story drags in parts, but this is still a film everyone should see at least once.

Outside Providence***In the 1970's, a stoner slacker is sent to a fancy prep school in an attempt to turn his life around. Nice little film.

Pauly Shore is Dead*Pauly Shore fakes his own death in an attempt to revitalize his failed comedy career.  You know you're in trouble when the best part of the film is old footage of Sam Kinison during the opening credits.

The Legend of Zorro**A very inferior sequel to the great 'Mask of Zorro' from a few years back.  This one seemed to want to be a bit more kid friendly, and that was a huge mistake.  There are a couple of nice stunts and 'Zorro' moments, but all in all, I was greatly disappointed by this.

Throw Momma From the Train***Danny Devito and Billy Crystal are very good in this.  Devito's character has a monster of a mother he wants dead.  Crystal has a vile ex wife he wants dead.  Devito decides they should murder each other's problems away.

Tucker: A Man and His Dream****Great film.  True story about a man who designed and built his own brand of car in the 1940's.  His car was superior to anything being made by the big auto companies, and the companies decided to do their best to destroy the man.

Wallace and Gromit: the Curse of the Were-Rabbit***Funny.  The great animated team jump to feature length films as they try and protect the vegatables of the English countryside from a monster rabbit.

DVD Additions for Jan. 29th, 2006

A Lot Like Love**So-so romantic comedy.  There's good chemistry between stars Ashton Kutcher and Amanda Peet, and a few laughs, but the film drags a bit too often.

Adventures in Babysitting***Funny tale about a young babysitter and the children she's watching getting into a series of misadventures in the big city.

Audition***A lonely single father holds auditions for a fake movie in order to meet girls.  Unfortunately, the one he ends up with is, shall we say, a bit obsessive about being the only person he loves.  Gruesome and disturbing.

Captain Ron**A young yuppie family buys a boat and hires a rather colorful sailor to take them on an ocean trip.   Things go amusingly wrong at every turn, and the family finds themselves stuck in a series of misadventures.

Citizen Kane****A famous and wealthy newspaper tycoon dies, and whispers two mysterious words as he dies.  As the mystery of the words unravels, we see the mans life story told in retrospect.  One of the most famous and well regarded films of all time.

Deep Rising**Treasure hunters, tourists and pirates converge on a sinking ocean liner, only to discover that there is something else on board with them.  Something big and hungry.

Dirty Love**Jenny McCarthy stars in this gross, over the top, semi funny comedy about a woman dealing with being dumped and trying to get her life back together.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels***Two con-men work with and against each other in the quest for riches.  Michael Caine and Steve Martin are great together.

Dragnet**This film version of the classic TV show stars Dan Ackroyd and Tom Hanks as the straight laced Sgt. Joe Friday and his new partner.  Together they take on a dangerous cult.  So- So.

Krull**Pretty standard 80's sword and sorcery with a bit of Star Wars influence thrown in.  Young guy gets together a group to battle big bad guy and his followers in order to save a princess.

Mafia!***Very funny take off on mafia movies from the 'Airplane' and 'Naked Gun' people.

Magnolia***Good but overly long look at the interconnecting lives of several people during a couple of very surreal days in L.A

Naked Gun 2 ½***More of the usual slapstick craziness.

Runaway***Tom Selleck stars as a futuristic cop who has the usually dull job of hunting down and shutting down malfunctioning droids.  His life gets more interesting when Gene Simmons blows into town with a bunch of insect like killer robots.

Saw**So-so horror about a psycho who puts people into situations where death is always the outcome.

State of Grace***A young man returns to NY and ends up involved in the Irish organized crime scene, something he escaped from years ago.  Great performances by Ed Harris, Gary Oldman and Sean Penn.

Teaching Mrs. Tingle**A trio of high schoolers take on a nasty, evil teacher with darkly humorous results.

The Curve**Dark comedy about college students trying to cash in on a school policy which states that if your roommate commits suicide, you get an automatic perfect grade for the semester.

The Gift****Great film with a great cast.  In a small Southern town, a young widow with a psychic gift helps locate a murdered girl, and ends up implicated in the mystery of her murder.

Twisted***A paralyzed policeman enlists the aid of a young policewoman to help track down a serial killer.  Denzel Washington and Angelina Jolie give strong performances.

Young Sherlock Holmes***Amusing fun.  A young Sherlock and Watson meet in school and get on the bad side of an evil cult.

DVD Additions for Jan. 2nd, 2006 (Happy New Year!)

Nighthawks****A terrorist(Rutger Hauer), looking to regain his lost reputation, targets New York City.  Unfortunately for him, he has to face two of New Yorks toughest cops (Stallone and Billy Dee Williams).  Great action film.

Son of Kong***Quick and kind of uninspired sequel to the original classic.  There really isn't much of a story, but it's nice to see more of Willis O'Briens effects, and a must for Kong fans.

The Pacifier***Lots funnier than I expected.  A marine is put in charge of guarding a bunch of kids.  Wackiness ensues.

DVD Additions for Christmas, 2005

An American Werewolf in Paris***Not bad at all.  When I first saw this film, I was very turned off by the cheesy CGI werewolfs.  Since then, having seen movies like Underworld and Van Helsing, I've gotten quite used to cheesy CGI werewolfs.  Watching it now, I can appreciate it for what it is, an entertaining and often funny, but not really scary, 'horror' film.

Chris Rock: Never Scared**Pretty good concert film.  Mostly funny, but Rock tends to get a bit preachy on race issues.

Cursed***Campy, entertaining, but far from 'scary'.  A brother and sister are bitten by a werewolf, and then try to hunt it down in order to keep themselves from becoming wolves.  Full of 'WB' style good looking kids.

D.C. Cab**Goofy.  A group of wacky cab drivers try to save their cab company and  get involved in a kidnapping.

Father’s Day***Funny.  Robin Williams and Billy Crystal play two men on a quest to find a runaway teen who may, or may not, be the son of one of them.

Fern Gully: The Last Rain Forest**Cute animated story about a bunch of rain forest dwelling fairies who try to save their land from human developers and an ancient demon.

Godzilla: Final Wars**Supposedly the final Godzilla film (yeah, right).  To make this film special, it was to have return appearances from several former Godzilla foes who hadn't been seen in decades.  Unfortunately, most of these appearances lasted less than a minute, due to a convoluted story about evil aliens and mutant heroes.  Do the filmmakers really think anyone cares about plot in these films?

Hitch****Will Smith is very funny as a smooth operator who tutors men on how to win the hearts of women.  His smooth routine fails him, though, when he finds himself falling in love.

Hotel New Hampshire**Weird, weird movie.  It's comedic sometimes and grimly serious in others.  It's the story of a disfunctional family who try to run a couple of hotels...beyond that it's almost indescribable, but not in a good way.

King Kong Escapes**An evil scientist tries to take control of King Kong, and uses a robot Kong to battle the giant ape.

King Kong vs. Godzilla***King Kong lands in Japan and has a battle royale against an evil Godzilla.  Giant monster fighing at it's best.

Lucas***Funny and sweet tale about an eccentric high school nerd trying to find love and acceptance among his older peers.

Psycho (98)**This is worth a watch just as a film oddity.  Director Gus Van Zant attempted to do a shot for shot exact remake of the famous Hitchcock film.   It's interesting, but nowhere near as good as the classic original.

Psycho 4**Semi interesting sequel/prequel to Psycho.  An adult Norman Bates calls into a radio show and recounts the story of his unusual childhood.  This is told in flashbacks, with Henry Thomas (E.T.) playing the young Norman.  It's not great, and it contradicts some things about Norman's past that we had heard in the original and previous sequels, but for Psycho fans, it's a nice bit of backstory.

Serenity****Fabulous sequel to the TV series 'Firefly'.  This film was universally praised by the critics, but flopped at the box office.   My only complaint is that, if you see this film without seeing the Firefly series first, you will miss out on some of the character depth.   Anyway, a crew of crooks on the run from the government discovers a secret that incriminates the government, and try to survive long enough to let the rest of the galaxy know about it.

Son of the Mask**Okay, so Jamie Kennedy is NO Jim Carrey, and his time in 'the mask' provides some of the least funny moments in the film.  However, there are some great animation bits with his dog and baby.

Starship Troopers 2**Fair sequel.  A group of troopers get trapped at a remote outpost, then 'Body Snatcher' stuff goes wild.

The 40 Year Old Virgin****The funniest movie I've seen in years!  A shy man is exposed as a virgin, and his hapless co-workers make it their personal mission to get him a girl.  Somewhere along the way, he falls in love.  In parts, it's nearly as touching as it is funny.

The Bone Collector***A paralyzed cop(Denzel Washington) guides a young cop(Angelina Jolie) on a hunt for a serial killer.

The Manchurian Candidate (2005)**So-so remake with a few new twists.  A soldier is mind controlled into becoming the perfect vice presidential candidate.

The Pallbearer**Okay....so a guy ends up as a pallbearer for a kid he can't remember from school, he pretends he remembers the kid and ends up sleeping with his mother, then Gwenyth Paltrow shows up to further confound matters....Weird and occasionally funny.

DVD Additions for Dec 10th, 2005

Bad Girls**A bunch of old west prostitutes, on the run from the law, try to make new lives for themselves.  This is a failed attempt at Thelma and Louise style 'Grrl power'.  Unfortunately, the four actresses, Drew Barrymore, Andi McDowell, Mary Masterson, and Madeline Stowe are incapable of being 'worn' enough or rough enough to look anything like believable old West hookers.

City by the Sea***Tense drama as a cop tries to find his estranged son, who has been accused of murder, before he gets himself killed.

Elvira’s Haunted Hills**The comedy elements here are fairly lame.  However, the film is a great little homage to all the old Universal and Hammer horror films.  Fans of those films will get a warm feeling from this.

Fantastic Four (2005)**Could have been much better, but is still fun for fans of the comic.  Some good parts, but a lot of dumb parts as well.

Havoc***Pretty good.  A couple of rich, spoiled and bored L.A. girls, who think of themselves as tough 'wiggers', get involved with some East L.A. drug dealers, and discover, to their dismay, that they are not as nearly tough as they think they are.

M*A*S*H***Kind of the prototype for the famous TV series.  This film, in my opinion, isn't as good as the show, but it's interesting to see where the show originated.

Mr & Mrs Smith****A married couple who are, unknown to each other, both assassins.  Troubles arrive when they are both assigned to kill the other.

Sky High***Cute film about a high school for superheroes in training.

The Dukes of Hazzard***Pretty funny update of the old TV show.  Lots of chuckles, but doesn't require a lot of brain use.

The Muppet Christmas Carol****An excellent retelling of the classic story, with Michael Caine as Scrooge and a cast of muppets as all the other characters.

The Muppet Movie***The muppets head to Hollywood to seek fame and fortune.  Lots of great cameos.

The Professional****Great!  A hitman, somewhat by chance, saves a young girl from being killed by crooked cops.   The two form a strong bond, as he teaches her about the life of a hitman.  A very young Natalie Portman does an oscar worthy acting job, here.

The Temp***Kind of freaky.  A temp secretary takes a little too much interest in her bosses life.  'Too much' as in 'Psycho killer'.

DVD Additions for Nov. 23rd , 2005

A Few Good Men****A great film.  After a marine turns up dead in his bunk, Tom Cruise and Demi Moore lead the investigation, and end up going head to head with a hard nosed colonel played wonderfully by Jack Nicholson.

Blame it on Rio**Okay buy a bit creepy comedy.  Two middle aged best friend guys take a tropical vacation with their two teenage daughters.  One of the dads ends up having an affair with his friend's daughter.

Delores Claiborne***A fiesty older woman is charged with murdering her employer, a case which is complicated by the fact that she may have gotten away with killing her husband years earlier.  Kathy Bates does a great job in this Stephen King adaption.

Drugstore Cowboy**Fair.  A drug dealer enjoys his life of crime until he hits rock bottom, then he tries to go straight.

Employee of the Month**Dark comedy.  A young yuppie loses his job and his fiancee in the same day, gets a bit annoyed, and starts formulating an elaborate plan to get even.  Then things get a bit out of hand.

Flirting With Disaster***Pretty funny with a great cast.  Ben Stiller goes on a quest to find his biological parents.  Wackiness ensues.  Also stars Patricia Arquette, Tia Leoni, Mary Tyler Moore, Alan Alda, and Lily Tomlin.

Heathers***Dark, dark comedy.  A young girl finds herself teamed up with a dark, slightly psycho male student who has it in mind to kill off all of the obnoxious popular girls in their school.

James and the Giant Peach***A little boy trapped living with some nasty relatives takes a fanciful journey inside a flying peach and is befriended by the giant bugs that live inside it.  Cute film.

Legally Blonde 2***The ditzy lawyer goes to Congress to try and get an animal rights bill passed.

Loaded Weapon***Uneven parody of the Lethal Weapon movies.  Occasionally lame, and occasionally hilarious.

Love Potion #9**Cute.  Two nerdy scientists discover a love potion.  Then, predictably, things get way out of hand.

Mimic***Giant mutant cockroaches develop the ability to look like humans.  They hide in the subways and chomp on people.  The scientist who helped create the little freaks tries to stop them.  Scarier and less lame than it sounds.

Monster****Powerful and tragic film.  A young girl who just wanted to be beautiful ends up as a prostitute, and eventually develops a murderous hatred of men.  Charlize Theron is amazing in this.  Christina Ricci plays the young lesbian who becomes the only person she loves in the world.

Neighbors**More weird than funny.  John Belushi's calm, dull family life is invaded by two bizarre new neighbors.

One Good Cop***Michael Keaton plays a cop who decides to steal from some drug dealers in order to support
